apartment bliss, winter cycling adventure

I absolutely love my apartment and living on my own. My aunt wondered to my mom whether my mom should keep my room open for me in case I come back, but my mom knowingly told her that there's not much chance of that. Not that I mind home all that much, but this is so much better. I feel so quiet and peaceful and me there. I've been fighting these ( Read more... )

You should buy a meditation mat at Brave New World for your living room decor; they are wonderful and versatile.

It's funny, but I've been in this state of missing roomates; right now, I have one roomate, but we aren't really "friends", (we get along, but we never hang out, or really talk about anything substantial) and I miss living with people who I can make dinner with, watch a movie with, or knock on their door at 2am to catch with. (I've had that with previous roomates)

But, I have lived alone, and at that time, I needed it. I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. :)

I've totally got to visit brave new world... I've never been in there but heard so much about it. and now I live just down the street :)

I really haven't spent a lot of time by myself, since I tend to be out at school and around town all day, and I've been inviting people over/having people show up. But the times where I am just by myself are sooo nice. I could see wanting to live with someone in the future but this is totally the best thing for me right now. I'd love to have you over to see it sometime soon!

I think i'm good in the teapot department... got an electric kettle and a neat elephant teapot that was a gift from my mom last christmas :) thanks anyway.
I'll be free from school's craziness after the 7th.

i've seen people even wearing nonbreathable rubber pants. me, i'm a fan of snowboarding pants or the k-way nylon windbreaker pants.

maybe NEOS if you can find 'em. they're nylon overboots. great for adding about 10 degrees to your feet. though, they don't breathe so that's fully a factor. depends how long the ride is.

a cross country ski trick is to carry two safeway bags and stuff 'em between sock layers (you /are/ wearing more than one pair of socks, yeah?) when it's rather cold. generally though, keeping the core warm and having an adequate wind protection layer keeps the extremities from freezing off.

the hard part is almost not to overheat once you've developed the staying warm systems. headgear i find extra important, and a windburned face totally sucks.

I think i'm ok in the headgear department... got a neat little mec bike touquey thing in combo w/ a 1 piece pullover thing.

I'm gonna thrift it up to see what I can find pantswise.

safeway bags sound great for feet in the absence of dollars for new things from mec. I'll take hot sweaty feet over frozen toes. Definitely /should/ have been wearing more than 1 pair of socks. these hikers are too big not to.

remind me, (how) do I know you?

I recommend produce bags rather than grocery, because they bunch less. The plastic socks make a big difference even if you only have one pair of socks on, because they prevent evaporative cooling.

A living room?

Cats. Definitely.

Failing that, a lot of books.
