I've had hives for at least three weeks now. Which really sucks, what with the itching and paying lots of money for antihistamines and steroids and creams which don't even help... and I can't think of any triggers, anything I've done differently to cause this. so my mom (a pharmacist) has been investigating and thinks it could be a yeast thing. I ( Read more... )

i've read that oil of oregano has antihistamine qualities (it's also naturally antibacterial and antifungal).
a little bottle is really expensive, but would last a long time, and is also very natural.

I second Oil of Oregano; I use it for viruses, but since both are bacterial(?), then I imagine it would work here as well.

My roomate was having similar problems a little while ago, and went for an allergy test. It turns out that she was really allergic to dustmites. She ended up buying completely new bedding, a new futon, a new vaccuum, and basically scouring the place. She said that her allergies have drastically improved. I realize that that's a lot of money to be spending, and you won't be able to buy all new things, but maybe even knowing the cause would help from taking an allergy test. Also, since you live in your own place, now, there could be a problem with mold and dustmites that you never had to deal with at home...

it could be the place... although it has new carpet. maybe it's my mattress? I got it second hand from someone... but it's weird because I've lived so many places, on so many beds, for long periods of time too, so it seems strange that this is all of a sudden happening...
I'd like to get an allergy test. I'll have to ask my doc about that I guess.

actually, you might want to try cutting down on the yeast in your diet.

i know everyone is giving you advice and that is so random, but
from the little i know:
an increase in yeast can mean an itchy thrush infection or a kind of dermatitis.
just chill out on the beer and bread for a while (i'll give you a great chapati recipe!)..? try some soy yogurt too. the lactobacillus in it has a way of balancing stuff out (i'll give you a recipe for that too!)

also are you still using the same soap you were three weeks ago? sometimes you can (after a while) build up an allergy to soap/deodorant etc.
it SUCCCCKS but you can try switching to like a hypoallergenic version of everything....?
i have tons of extra dove/ivory soap if you 're interested....

hope things get better!!!
aTRON

PS i also need a measurement of your hands. an email to follow

I've been using the same kind of shampoo/conditioner, and lotion for like 4 months or more... and I just use plain soap, I think it is dove or ivory, pretty normal.

I don't really eat that much bread or drink that much beer... I maybe have beer a couple times a month and don't ususally drink much, and I have bread only maybe a few times a week. but I think I'll basically cut them out.

thanks for the thoughts!
