On Castiel's first birthday, Sam hands him a small package wrapped in brown paper.

I'm very excited to hear this (downloading it ATM) because I'm not sure if I've heard these before.
This is probably the part that makes me cry the most. The loss of Sam echoes through the story. I've come to love Sam so much more than I ever had in the recent months so when him and his fate are mentioned in this fic, my heart feels like it's going to shrivel up and die.
I could see this scene bathed in sepia in my head, like a true,old-fashioned style flashback. It's such a beautiful thing to see this and go back to how much this CD meant to Cas. When Sam's intentions and wishes are communicated here, it becomes all the more meaningful.
