AND it's that time of year again: 2011 in review

Dec 31, 2011 20:26

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Threw a bachelorette party & saw my bff married.  Pet a baby tiger.  Attended a nerd con.  Improvised a cocktail.  Went clubbing alone.  Went to a peace rally.  Organized a banned books reading.  Ran a book club.  Hooked up with a stranger.  Solo all-night road trip.  Baked a pizza from scratch.  Pot.  Got front row tickets at the theatre.  THE LOUVRE!!  Got in a car accident.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year's resolutions: I did get a job!  Shazam!  I am not particularly more responsible than before.  Oh well.
This year's: Draw more!  Write more!  Dance more!  Learn  to bake!  & stop being a goddamn human sponge.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Amy & John had a baaaaaaby

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No

5. What countries did you visit?
Angleterre et la France.  Georgia aussi est vraiment un pays independant

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A job anywhere other than Georgia.  An electric blue wig.  Dance classes.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
All of Paris! TG in the UK.  Angie’s weddingggg.  The first hellish weekend in Thomaston.  The day we found out YeYe was sick.  D*Con.  Troy Davis’ execution.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
GETTING A JOB.  !!!  Being a (relatively) good maid of honor.  Getting front row tickets to Frankenstein.  Getting the courage to hit up TG.  Pulling off the Banned Books reading.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Letting myself sink into inertia in Thomaston.  Letting myself sink into inertia at my job.  Putzing out on NaNoWriMo.  Missing 2 days of Project 365!!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Fell flat on my face several times tripping over nothing.  Otherwise, no.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets to Oklahoma.  My awesome dangly drag queen earrings.  Frankenstein tickets.  D*Con tickets.  TG tickets.  Greg Proops tickets.  Dinner in Paris.  4 pairs of $1 shoes.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Rach was my rock in London and through the messy GA transition.  Robyn as well.  Ang, Daina & Bridge were my Alcoholic Wednesday Queens.  Ernesto made my London time x10 better through Primrose hill picnics, late night beer runs and Heaven outings.  Jerge kept me sane through November.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one in partic tbh, aside from some of my coworkers. Oh and that creepyass dude at the Venice Archives.

14. Where did most of your money go?
TRANSPO.  Plane tickets & gas combined.  & shitty Sainsbury’s wine.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
LONDON.  TG.  Angie’s weddingggggg.  Oklahoma!  Seeing William Shatner!  Getting hired!

6. What song will always remind you of 2011?
BORNNNN THIS WAAAAAAY.  That record will always remind me of wretched nights driving to & from Gianni’s Pizza.  My boyfriend Drake!  ‘Good Feeling’ by Flo Rida is the compressed diamond core of pop music.  SKRILLEX.  NPR’s All Songs Considered!  Spotify earlier this year resubmerged me nose-deep in The Charlatans, Mansun & Mark Ronson.  And last and also least, entirely against my will, Last Friday Night lord save my soul.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier? No.
ii thinner or fatter? Fatter.  THANKS CHRISTMAS
iii. richer or poorer? Richer!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Dancing.  Socializing.  Having a life in general.  NaNo.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
ONTD, which briefly yet utterly took over my life.  Watching 2 Broke Girls.  Spacing out.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Here’s how it went down: AWESOME PRESENTS (scarves/cookware/skirt/mittens), 100000 Nutcrackers, Aunt Arlene’s, insane person’s yard full of christmas lights.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
my heart is carved of ice

23. How many one-night stands?
Sixty four

24. What was your favorite TV program?
As enabled by a deadly Netflix/AV Club combo: START YOUR ENGINES RU PAUL’S DRAG RACE!  So much Community.  Also started working my way chronologically through Buffy and had a brief whirlwind romance with 30 Rock.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Lolno.

26. What was the best book you read?
Confederates in the Attic, The Moviegoer, The Hunger Games Trilogy ate my life and wrecked my soul, Sherlock kept me going through a shitty May & June

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hey Drake hey.  The Social Network soundtrack.  Also doesn’t quite count as music but iTunes podcasts - A History of the World in 100 Objects & Nerdist particularly - helped me survive Georgia.

28. What did you want and get?
A JOB.  Reunion time in Oklahoma.  A better acquaintance with the magical town of London.  A closeup of Benedict Cumberbatch’s ass.  Pot.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Expected L’Homme de sa Vie to be another mediocre LGBT movie but it was gorgeous and moving.  Wizards was fucking weird.  Zardoz was... memorable.  J Edgar wasn’t half as bad as critics make out.  Moon was terrifying and beautiful.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
24.  Didn’t do jaaaaaack.  Got an awesome peace lily in the mail from the parents, bought myself some DQ, talked to Daina.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not living in BFN Georgia.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Started off the year with only one pierced ear, ended it with a magnificent parade of +sized chandelier earrings.  Lots of Librarian Clothes (read: sweaters) and head scarves.

34. What kept you sane?
Netflix, podcasts, Skype, Lady Gaga.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
OH AUBREY GRAHAM.  MY HEART BEATS FOR YOOOU.  Tom Hiddleston is stupidly attractive.  So is 90s Sarah Michelle Gellar.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Death Penalty.  Death Penalty.  Death Penalty.

37. Who did you miss?
Oh, far too many to list.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Cheryl was a lovely roommate.  Terry’s been a lovely coworker.  Kate is hilarious and fabulously encouraging.  Brannen is a fun gab-friend.  Does standing 10 feet away from Alan Rickman count as meeting him?

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
Don’t casually mention to strangers you think the drummer is hot because they will practically shove him down your pants.  5.45 AM is barely early enough to start queuing for Benedict Cumberbatch’s ass.  When an engaged couple is bickering incessantly in front of you, don’t try to divert the topic to feminism OR suggest more alcohol.  Don’t tell people in the deep south you’re agnostic.  Don’t aggravate little old humanist ladies.  Don’t fuck with people’s deli sandwiches.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know
everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold
I'll be fine once I get it, I'll be good.
