In-Character Information
Name: Nabooru
Game/Series: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Canon Point: Pre-Game
Age & Teaching Position: 19 Years Old | Dancing
Living Arrangements: If she could have her own place, that’d be pretty awesome. If you’ve got to put her with someone else, that’s fine, too.

Personality:
She’s the kind of woman who’s one of extremes. There’s really no middle-ground with her. Cross her good side and be prepared to be facing the wrong end of her blade until the end of time. Support her back and she might even bend over for you-as long as you can satisfy her. And honestly, the latter? That’s not a task easily accomplished.

All ill humour aside, Nabooru is nothing short of a firework. Light her fuse and watch her blow, but take cover because the explosion is going to be epic. That is literally her in a nutshell. But we don’t want the nutshell. We want the whole candy bar. (As I said before, coffee and an app may not be the best combination.)

Nabooru is the epitome of strength, loyalty, and dedication, no matter how the rest of the Gerudo tribe may be depicted as. Some could even say that she’s a bit pig-headed and considering her leader can turn into a pig-like creature, it’s fairly easy to see where she got it from. With her fearless commander out of the picture, Nabooru is quite capable of holding her own and putting forth orders for those below her. She’s trustworthy and committed to such an extent that it could be considered a flaw. On more than one occasion, it’s implied that she would gladly part with her life for the sake of what she considers to be the life force of the Gerudo.

When she’s not under the lights of evaluation and judgment, be it from Ganondorf or her peers, Nabooru is a little less than professional. Still capable of being calm and rational, collected and ultimately deceptive, she’s a little more light-hearted, entertaining, and enjoys getting a rise out of others.

The Gerudo are a promiscuous sort, mostly to keep their race going. Nabooru appears to be one of the few women who will not resort to any man for some form of procreation. It’s a good indication that no matter what others may think of her or her kind, she certainly has some standards and has very little trouble in telling people exactly where they stand with regards to them. It would not be a lie to state that she lacks the finesse to handle situations with sugar-coating speech, or that she’s the most compassionate person.

Generally, if she’s not in it for the one above her, then she’s in it for herself. Unfortunately, Nabooru’s a little bit more selfish (or a lot more in some cases) than she’d care to admit.

Backstory:
Although we’re not given much previous explanation regarding the Gerudo or their origin, we can assume that like the other life forms, the Gerudo were created by the goddess Farore (as stated by legend that it was she who formed all beings who would uphold the spirit of law-this, however, can be debated as the Gerudo are depicted as not the most trustworthy or historically found to be of “upholding the law”). This is contradictory to Gerudo beliefs though, as they hold a very strong commitment and dedication to the Goddess of the Sand, often thought to be Din.

Creation aside, the Gerudo were a race entirely of women, whose by some divine interference, became pawns of fate. A man, every century, would be born into their ranks and become the ruler of the clan. As the Gerudo race is made up of a sad majority of women, it’s very much impossible, that the Gerudo male born was indeed not a result of interracial breeding. The same goes for any number of females born into the tribe. This can be concluded that over time, the percentage of full-blooded Gerudo has probably dwindled to a scarce amount, not that such a thing is represented by how Gerudos are aesthetically represented.

Nabooru was born into the Gerudo, under the very strict notion that racial tradition and culture was important to uphold, respect, honour, and cherish. Because of this, her studies, her training, and her commitment started out as very transparent, something that would only increase with age. Raised under the idea that she was meant more as a tool or a servant than anything else, she likely did not question the way of life or why things were the way that they were. Children are impressionable creatures and it’s improbable that the Gerudo offspring were anything different in terms of malleable mentality.

It was that commitment, dedication, and loyalty that won her the eyes of Ganondorf. Although only a few years older than her, they grew up together, not so much as friends as it was an attendant to a ruler. Nabooru was aware from the very beginning that no matter how close they may have been, in the end, she was to be no different from any of the other girls who tended to him. And yet something changed in the times.

Ganondorf, after some considerable time, made her his second-in-command, a great honour that any of the others would have been proud to have. She was rewarded with influence, with sway, with reputation, and charged with the ability to make good judgement based on benefits for all of their people, but Ganondorf specifically. This was a pinnacle-or the pinnacle-to her success.

Never one to question his orders, his demands, or his expectance of his race, she made no protests when he announced his departure for Smash Academy and Final Destination City. Although she knew nothing of the area, of the region, or what awaited him, she remained everlastingly patient with baited breath of his investigation and his news, something he often updated her with. And when it became too much, either to be apart from him or her curiosity, Nabooru chose to accompany.

Self-proclaimed popular, Nabooru’s outlandish behaviour and oftentimes inappropriate demeanour won her many eyes. In spite of her dedication to Ganondorf, however, she found herself attracted to a couple of other men who wound up indirect rivals to her lord’s conquests. While she likely should have had her eyes more upon him, she was more keen on tugging on Shinon’s hair ribbon and making Raiden as uncomfortable as she possibly could.

After considerable time, she paid the consequences. To bring Raiden from a rather deep funk, she took him to Hyrule, specifically to the Gerudo’s fortress, which was considered an act of treason. When her actions were reported to Ganondorf, her title was stripped from her and she, exiled from the desert, and disowned from the tribe as a whole. Without anything further to cling to of her former life, she changed her garb, her hair, the entire way she carried herself. While this took a lot of the fire out of her, she dived into her work as a dance instructor.

And then there came a period where as she was beginning to reclaim what was rightfully hers, the power beneath Ganondorf’s impenetrable hand, she returned to Hyrule in hopes of finding herself and what she was truly meant to do. In her exile, she’d been cast as a social pariah, a creature noted for her treachery, and used as an example for the rest of her kind. Beside herself with her anger, her hatred, her loathing, the simple desire to see Ganondorf toppled for what he yanked from her, it seemed more than enough to coerce her back onto the doorsteps of the academy.

With sword in hand, gems hand-crafted, hair pulled back, Nabooru made the final step towards what she believed would be her greatest conquest. She would retake her freedom and she would push that man off his throne. No longer would she be serving him. No. It would be the other way around.

Anything Else?:
♑ Nabooru is, by Fate’s decision, the Sage of Spirit. While she’s not aware of this, she is in recognition of her abilities and that there is a much stronger force than she at work.
♑ At almost all times, she carries one sword on her, something similar to a talwar blade, but Nabooru is capable of dual wielding. She’s also very good at archery and most other weaponry as long as it falls into the sword category.
♑ Her dedication and loyalty to the Gerudo often goes to the extent where she tends not to change her garb. This is circumstantial, however, considering her previous exile from the desert.
♑ Nabooru’s religious beliefs are something of an odd conversation. She’s very committed to the Goddess of the Sand, perhaps even more to her than she is to the Gerudo. It’s very difficult to tell if this is personal gain or pure-hearted loyalty.
♑ The Gerudo, like the Hylians, probably have an extended lifespan. In consequence, time in Hyrule / the Desert / Lord Jabu-Jabu’s stomach may not run the same as it does in the academy. Nabooru is probably older than she says she is, but this may not be physically represented.
♑ Gems, jewels, and jewelry in particular is indicative of rank within the Gerudo. Nabooru’s former rank as second-in-command and her relationship to (and with) Ganondorf previously decorated her with many gifts of this ornate detail. Most of these have been returned to Ganondorf’s possession. Raiden, however, has one of her gems.
♑ For as flirtatious and promiscuous as the rest of her tribe is, Nabooru is surprisingly innocent in the means of intimacy-both physical and emotional. This is definitely not one of her strong suits, no matter how much she may pretend that it is.

In-Character 1st person writing sample (journal) :
He will hear me come.

The wind will carry me forward. It will propel me to his feet. But I will not bow any longer. As he stares down at me with that distaste and that disapproval, I will deceptively incline my head. I will make him believe that I am at his compassion. I will let him take me in and scold me. I will let him punish me and make me an example to the others.

I’ll work up that ladder again and when I get to my rightful spot, the one beside him, I will throw him from his pedestal. And then I’ll force him out of my desert, out of my fortress, out of my tribe and my family. I’ll regain my honour by taking it back. There’s nothing that can stop me.

Except perhaps, myself.

In-Character 3rd person writing post:
What am I even doing?

Nabooru inwardly groaned at herself with a great amount of distaste. All of this was a mess. In fact, it was such a mess that she didn’t exactly know how to fix it. Most things weren’t immediate either. There was no goddess that would ever grant her forgiveness overnight. And it wasn’t as though she had ever wronged any of them. Well, except that whole “upholding the law” shtick. But that was something different entirely. What she did for the sake of her family she felt sometimes overrode whatever the goddesses were having Hyrule do.

To be fair, the Goddess of the Sand was really the one she needed to remain true to. Considering she had yet to be swallowed up by the harsh winds or managed to find any sand traps that she couldn’t escape from had to mean something. Just because Ganondorf had punished her hadn’t necessarily meant that she was beyond redemption. It just meant that a horrible man had mistreated her. Soon she would exact her revenge. But how could she, really?

Too many times Ganondorf had looked at her before with love within his eyes. He had doted upon her, spoiled her, kept her very near to his side nearly at all times. She had been his second-in-command, and he had admitted that it was only his position that had sentenced her to her everlasting struggle away from the harbour that was the fortress. Some might have argued that it was his way of forcing her to strengthen herself upon her return. But had he known that she was going to come back? Did he know that she would crawl back to him in that desperation?

Perhaps he had. He was a brilliant man and only a truly deceptive person could fool the master of deception. She would have to tread carefully when she began her plan, for if one person knew of her tells, it was most certainly him, be it the tic of an innocent eyebrow, or a rather clumsy gesture made from a woman whose grace was naturally incomparable.

But still, to look at him and state that her heart held absolutely no feeling for him at all… It would have been a blatant lie. What a terrible place to be caught up in. To hate the man who had taken everything from her-not necessarily because he’d wanted to, but because it was expected of him… Or to love the man who had given everything to her, specifically because he’d wanted to. In hindsight, he could have better proven his love for her by simply changing the rules and overlooking her slight.

After all, she’d not done anything to specifically insult anyone. Oh, if she ever got her hands on the ill-fated girl who’d opened the gaping hole in her face… She’d not last long. Nabooru would gladly strangle the life out of her for all of the trouble she’d caused. And then Ganondorf would pay.

Priorities, priorities…
