The Coming October Surprise(s)
We all know one or more are coming probably by both parties but we can only guess what they will be.
October surprises date back to 1816 when James Monroe was going for the presidency versus Rufus King. A reporter from the daily Pottstown ledger claimed to have intercepted a carrier pigeon carrying erotic poetry from Sen. King to an unidentified minor. It must've worked because we never had a president by the name of King and we all know that we had one named Monroe shortly after that.

As the link above shows, there were October surprises in nearly every election since then. One of the most notable of recent times was when some reporter from some Sacramento fish wrap alleged that George Bush flew in a SR 71 to Paris to make some sort of deal with the Iranians about the hostages. What's really notable about this one is that Jack Anderson, one of the most respected commentators of his day, was the first person to coin the term October surprise in regard to this.

My view is that the coming election may really be won by Obama's October surprise. It's very simple. Obama knows that as a wartime president, being reelected is nearly guaranteed.
I believe he plans an attack on Iran sometime in early to mid October. It will be an air and naval campaign that will literally disarm Iran and destroy its nuclear capability. He has the resources to do this thanks to the professional, very well-equipped and competent military that George Bush left him. It's one of the few things that Bush left him that he won't give credit for.
Obama is doing everything he can now to see to it that Israel won't beat them to the punch before October and steal his thunder. I hope they do.
Since the current Republican candidates are leaving no stones unturned to damage one another I can't think of another October surprise that Obama could come up with unless is a complete fabrication, well within his capability.
What say you? Am I all wet? Any guesses on what the Republican surprise will be?
