From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Small Ceremonies, such as "Inviting a Friend to Supper"

This has been a rough week for me. Not only have I been sick, but I also had two essays due this week and had to work for 16 hours in hell (aka Benteler Automotive). Now that you are feeling sympathy for me, please accept my apology for not posting this entry earlier in the week ( Read more... )

Hey Janice,

your post about the grandeur of everyday life reminded me about one of my favorite movies, Amelie. In particular the scene in which she discovers the true identity of the Photo Booth repair man. He's just a guy who fixes the photo booth, but he gets to have this god-like status in the their eyes. It's so silly and gorgeous. *sigh* I love that movie.

Hey Meag,
I am a fan of the movie as well and I think by referencing it, you have risen a great point. I think photographs can be thought of as similar to verse letters and novels about ordinary things. Photos frame their subjects, draw special attention to them and forces the observer to look at the individual(s) in a different way, as more than ordinary, perhaps even as special.
Thanks for providing a great example,
Janice

Hi Janice, great post as always:). I hope you're feeling better and I'm sure that, under the circumstances, it won't matter that you posted late. Keep up the wonderful work! :)
