Filthy, But Fun!

I so much enjoyed the Jonathan Swift poem we read this week in class that I have shared it with some friends and we all agree, it is delightful. Of course, "The Lady's Dressing Room," is filthy and perhaps even vulgar, but so refreshingly honest that it is appealing. Hey, I also thought that about Swift and Pope. The topic is very similar. Both are referring to outrageous female Adornment.

Ugh- lady-like is just a horrible term. Maybe it's the advancement of equality, the reshaping of society, or blame it on Bushnell's "Sex and the City" (hahah), but I think people should just act the way they want to, dress the way they want, and just be who they are. Screw the rest. To hell with traditional gender roles and assigning appropriate behaviours to people based on their anatomy.
I also agree on the two poems.

Janice, wonderful post. I also hate the term "lady-like" especially when it's used in a sentence like this: "Don't burp like that, it's not very lady-like." I mean how else am I supposed to do it? Anyway, I agree with you about the similarities between the two poems. Ciao,

Nice post. If you enjoy Swift's crude fun, try the Earl of Rochester. He out-Swifts Swift, but dispenses with the "serious" satiric purpose, much of the time.
