Yes, I know, my title doesn't exactly reflect the work of Robert Browning or Elizabeth Barrett Browning, but if one were to combine the poetic styles of each, well then, my title would be accurate. Afterall, the Brownings were so in love and supportive of one another's work, one could easily image that they would have influenced eachother and ( Read more... )

Excellent synopsis Meg, thank you. I entirely agree with everything you have said about the Romantics and especially the literary features of post-modernism. However, my point in the post was to refute what the student in my Canadian Literature class said about post-modernism being in opposition to or a reaction to Romanticism, which is in some ways true. But, I wanted to demonstrate that much of Romanticism exists within post-modernism, despite the many obvious differences and I hope I did that! Even if just "a litte bit"! Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to always read my posts,

Janice

What needs to be said and been said above, thank you Meghan and Janice for letting me read your thoughts on the subject/link of post-modernism and the romantics. All I have to say now is damnit! I really want to read the rest of that poem, how many more pieces are there to the puzzle? Perhaps I shall research and try to pin it down. Stupid copyright, man if Shakespeare knew about copyright he'd be rolling in his millions, then again he is six feet below. Oh and just for fun I have to mention that when I saw Randy and Mr.Lahey (characters from the Canadian tv show Trailer Park Boys shown sunday nights on Showcase *wink* *wink*) doing their stand up, at one point Jon (who plays Lahey and is a credited actor in theatre) recited the "All the World Is a Stage" piece, and he recited the stage of lover to me...he he that makes me smile

I am so glad you enjoyed reading our thoughts on the subject! As for the poem, it truly is a shame that I cannot provide more of it for you. If you would like I can bring my Anthology of Canadian Literature to class on Monday and you can read the poem in its entirety. Please let me know asap,

Janice

Oh Janice, you've outdone yourself yet again. Your post was excellently written and to link Post-Modernism to the Romantics, I would never have made that connection. I also loved the Livesay poem, what you were able to provide of it anyway. Great post all around.
