You have no idea the depths of my love for this. No Idea! This is what I have wanted ever since I watched the anime.

Characterization: You have Jack amazingly fleshed out, I don't know if it was the anime's fault or mine but always seemed kinda flat to me, considering he's Rei's main human interaction. Speaking of Rei is wow, you really are good at writing insane characters and making them someone I can sympathize with instead of just random crazy.

No character for Yukikaze yet, are you going to give it an AI? Seriously can't wait!

Aw. XD I watched the anime and was so angry at how soulless it was, because it teased with a lot of interesting ideas that I thought would have been great to explore.

Hehe, I'm glad you like my take on Jack. :) IMO, the anime treated pretty much all its characters like pieces of cardboard; there was never anything there to truly care about or understand anybody. And yes, as you said, given that Jack is Rei's main "argument" for staying human, staying in contact with humans, he would have needed more characterization.

I'm also glad you like this version of Rei; it was very disappointing that the anime went nowhere with the fact that, in some takes, he seemed to be genuinely traumatized/suffering from some kind of disorder. I hope to be going more into depth with that, and of course, proper reasons for it, too. XD

Oh man, yeah. I adore the idea of sentient/sapient fighter jet in love with its human pilot. Yukikaze will definitely be its own character. Poor Jack, he has no idea what is waiting for him there. *grin*

I was quite sure that Rei was going to turn out to be an alien when they brought up the point that the JAM are trying to imitate humans/can use their dead bodies for their own purposes. But no, no dice.

I'm not sure I agree with that quote on love, or the idea that Yukikaze is possessive. XD; It strikes me more as protective than anything, which makes for this weird dissonance when the machine seems to be the only one to realize that Rei needs to be saved from himself.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to work through this. I agree with you that Jack being so hostile towards Yukikaze is strange, considering that at this point, he knows the jet is sentient and has interacted with it a lot. His wariness would only make sense if Yukikaze were actively endangering Rei through whatever means, but the jet is shown multiple times to have better common sense than its pilot, to the point where Yukikaze itself seems to be forcibly reminding Rei of his humanity. So yeah. Bramble-ramble, it'll be a strange love triangle, alright. XDD

Don't they say somewhere that the Yukikaze will only let Rei pilot it. Or did I get that from somewhere else? I don't know I probably hooked on it from a fanfic or something. Also Going from their I meant the quote as a way of saying that if Yukikaze could get possessive of Rei then I thought it logical that he could love him too in some fashion ( ... )

I think they might have, but honestly, one line of non-exposition sounded very much like the other, so I guess I missed that one. XD I am fond of the idea of Rei being special that way, but goodness, it needed more explanation (you'd think the military wouldn't be too fond of having an emotionally attached jet, for one).

See, that's interesting, I thought Yukikaze had been given just a limited set of phrases to use for communication, or at least a limited understanding of human emotions, so that's why it'd throw something like that out there. Hmmm... things to ponder.

Oh yeah, I mean, my main problem with Jack (apart from the fact that he's cardboard) is that he's worried all the time but doesn't really take any action or really get confrontational about it. I mean, he never gives a good reason to distrust Yukikaze (other than that he might implicitly blame it for "stealing" Rei or something equally silly XD), but he doesn't really do anything about his gut feeling, either. Tbh, I wasn't even really sure what Jack wanted; he seemed ( ... )
