This is fantastic (but of course you knew that already). Really, much love for this fic.
He blinks, and Ky is back in his uniform, with a sword nearly as tall as he is strapped to his side, fingers trying to tap out the rhythm to Now I'm Here like it's getting into his blood.
Hehe, yeah. Doubt he knew much music growing up, except perhaps the occasional village festival and singing in church. I had to dig a bit in history because we're living surrounded by music, and to imagine what it's like without an iPod, or a radio, or any kind of button-press music, really... it's kind of bizarre.
“The band’s building towards the guitar solo, and if he holds onto that sound, he won’t have to deal with the thought that life really used to be pretty good, before he blew up the world.”
This line really hooked me in for the rest of the story. Uggghhhh Sol your life sucks so much. vAv
Thanks for reading. :) Man, yeah, Sol's got a metric ton of baggage that he'd barely even consider sharing, but it's what makes him so amazing. To keep going even with all he's carrying on his shoulders, that's really something.
Yeah, it's a good question that I still haven't quite decided for myself: does he keep himself going because he cares that much about the fate of the world, or is he able keep going because he's cut himself off from caring anymore, to keep the guilt from bearing down so much as to be paralyzing? Like, to what extent it's actual revenge and to what extent it's cleaning up his part of the mess. I mean, to some extent he obviously cares, but one has to wonder where the line is drawn... Interesting stuff to ponder!
I'm so glad you wrote this now, honestly XD; I'm about to go be playing a week of Frederick in an LJRP I play Sol in, haha. It's giving me food for thought!
Aw dude, this one made me feel so sorry for Sol. Music is something we all relate to, it can be rock, pop or whatever suits people tastes. I love how you give it the deep meaning it deserves, when we are so used to have it around us. Sol using it as an anchor to his humanity is sweet in so many ways.
Sol's love for music is one of those things that really endeared him to me as a character. There's this big, burly guy who doesn't talk much and has so much on his platter, and his favorite thing in the world is a Queen album. It's so wonderfully human, and a reminder of everything he lost.

Also, the Iron Maiden thing cracked me up. I can totally see them listening to Killers together.

*snicker* Sol will manage to share headphones with Axl and still look like he doesn't know who that guy to his left is.
