The strange memory loss, immediately followed by a holiday, has probably left everyone a little out of sorts. ...Though the holiday itself was quite enjoyable. I'm afraid I never caught an explanation of it, however; if anyone has the spare time, I would like to hear one.

I can think of few better suited to warn against the dangers of winter than you, Nephry.

You could have done it.

[she doesn't remember his return but it's been days now so no double-takes here]

I wouldn't have asked His Majesty or Saphir, though. ...And with everything that's happened lately, I thought I might as well.

Not at all. I've been living in Grand Chokmah my entire adult life, after all.

There are actually people here from worlds that don't have snow?

Or at least from parts of their world that do not, in much the same way as 'summer' here was far warmer than Keterburg.

If they're simply from a part of their world where it doesn't snow, they should already understand the concept, though.

The concept, but not the realities.

An explanation? Alright, I'll give it a shot.

About 2000-some years ago, this guy was born. Some bigshot or something like that and said that everything'd be better it we all got along. So they killed him. But he came back to life and now on the anniversary of his death, he comes back from his secret home on Titan or something to give toys to the kids who did their best not to be like the jerks that killed him.

...That's...a very interesting premise for a holiday.

Surely there must be more to it.

I heard that Christmas was about a very important man on Earth who wanted people to love and be kind to each other. Maybe that's where the presents part came from?

That's preferable to the other explanation I received. ...We could use more people who desire kindness.

Does it get much colder than this? As it is, it isn't much colder than my home, but there does seem to be more snow.

Here? I'm not certain. I've only been here about six or seven months.

I see. It is remarkable how similar the weather here is to my home world. Before coming here, I would not have thought another Universe would be habitable.
