I've been thinking for about the last year about books or guides aimed at females on the subject of masturbation. Specifically for beginners. Granted, this is because I have a female child approaching this age and I want her to not have the fear/shame/embarassment issues with masturbation that I had growing up ( Read more... )

I was twelve. I'd just read Wifey by Judy Blume (plucked off my parents' shelves) and realized that what they were talking about was probably the way to get rid of the itchy need SOMETHING feeling I had from reading about it in the first place. I remember being utterly fascinated by the whole process (and excessive).

I also remember when I was 20 and discovered that there were girls who had never done it and wouldn't consider it and thought it was horrible that boys did (especially their boyfriends). I always felt sorry for them.

I don't know of any good books. All my information then came from fiction, about people with healthy attitudes, and it turned out to be a good source for me. I, in turn, passed along this information to friends.

I was probably 10 or 11. I found my father's book Little Doreen Discovers Sex and while Doreen was taking on three football players at once, she was jacking off one of them while two other holes were empty. Rubbing my dick with my hand was something I could do by myself, so I decided to give it a try. It was nifty and I continued this even though I didn't orgasm back then. This began the period when I'd get yelled at for monopolizing the only bathroom in the house. I (of course) figured they had zero clue what I was doing in there, since clearly I'd practically invented the idea of doing this by yourself.

A few years later my best friend got Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex, But Were Afraid To Ask and we both read it multiple times. It was the first time I'd seen written that masturbation was okay to do. While helpful, I wouldn't recommend it since I've read reviews of it more recently and it apparently isn't that great in their handling of homosexuality.

You know, I really can't remember how old I was the first time. I remember stealing my Mom's Amanda Quick books, though!

So....terrible chic lit for the win? :)
