This is one of the less-than-stellar episodes of Season 1 and I'm comforted by the fact that you reacted much better than I expected. Maybe it was because of Ducky... :-)
Living ships, organic technology: yes. But remember that Moya might be just an exception.
The corporation conversation reminds me of Avatar IPX (that's their name) will soon show its not-so-nice face. Just keep in mind that rummaging among ruins you can uncover nasty things, very nasty....
When you mentioned the Terminator I laughed our loud: that part still looks a little ludicrous to me, and I feel anything but fright. But it's just the first important hint about organic technology, and its dangers.
Sinclair running into danger: yes, he has something of a death wish, and Garibaldi called him on that. More to come, plus a few explanations. The final speech is just wonderful, yes. JMS does that to you...
LOL--you know, as I was watching it, I was very "meh" because I'd really liked the other one. Not even Ducky was saving it for me.
but then they got into talking about greed and ambition and why explore space, not to mention the little flaw in Sinclair's Captain Kirk impressions...which made me realize that it really wasn't about the doo-hicky at all, but was rather about the idea that brought the doo-hicky aboard in the first place.
As for Sinclair's speech, this morning I was driving to work. I'm facing east, it's about 7:50 am or so and I have to go up this ramp that has freeways under it. So as you crest the ramp and look straight off, you don't really see around you. rather, you see what's in front; it's almost a sensation of flying in that way. And as I'm cresting this ramp, the sun has risen but it's not bright/bright yet. At that moment, Sinclair's speech popped into my head. Spontaneously.

Yes. The dark side of IPX is the search for alien artifacts that can be turned into weapons, blatantly ignoring the fact that those weapons can bite you in the backside when you're not looking.

Lovely image! And the proof that JMS' writing is leaving a mark... Not that I doubted it :-)
