ooc: Two Memes

I saw this meme floating around for a while on my f-list, but as Allelujah is my one and only muse at the moment, there seemed to be no point in asking people to "pick a character" :| It was an interesting meme nonetheless, so without further ado I present the five points of headcanon. (PS: I GOT TOTALLY CARRIED AWAY >>)

1. Allelujah speaks with a noticably Russian accent. English is actually his third or fourth language, depending on whether or not you count Kazakh, which he had a typical young child's grasp of prior to the facility. The facility years, and his subsequent life in the HRL, provided him with his fluency in Russian and a fair understanding of Mandarin. While on the streets he also picked up the basics of English from foreigners and the like - enough to communicate sufficiently with Celestial Being when they first contacted him, but nowhere near enough to pass as a native speaker. This made his first few months amongst Celestial Being somewhat more difficult than it might have otherwise been, especially as the range of nationalities meant a range of confusing accents (bloody Irish). Although he's largely fluent in English by now, his haphazard absorbtion of it still shows in the slight formality he can sometimes speak with.
1b. Sapphire and I agreed that when Allelujah and Soma are talking to one another alone, they revert to their native tongue, but are considerate enough to speak English in the company of others.

2. He dislikes being cold. He won't kick up a fuss and complain about it, and can in fact handle chilly weather better than most - hello, he grew up in Russia - but it's not a state he particularly likes to be in. It's partly psychosomatic, with previous experiences of coldness generally meaning not good things (drifting shuttles, street life, dark cells, take your pick) and partly that he just plain doesn't enjoy it! So the fact he managed to arrive in Somarium just when winter hit was actually rather exasperating for him, for all that he wasn't in a state to be taking long trips through the snow in the first place.
2b. That Celestial Being chose a nice, sunny island as their base of operations on Earth was quite a relief.

3. Hallelujah's emergence was gradual. It started off with little erratic inconsistencies - short, sharp bursts of violent emotion that came out of the blue and subsided just as quickly, or sudden negative thoughts and urges that frightened Allelujah more than anything. As time went on they got worse, stronger, and more separate; when the urges came forward, it felt like he faded back, there but not there, only to fade back in to find another kid wheezing around a solid punch to the throat that might have killed if Alle was more than eight years old. Obviously the other kids noticed the strange behaviour, but the rest of the time he was one of the meekest kids there, so. Neither he nor Halle remember the exact moment self-awareness crept into it all. However, they do know it wasn't until Marie defined the split and named it that 'it' truly became a 'he'. A Hallelujah.
3b. Hallelujah doesn't really credit Marie with this definition. It's not in his nature to go feeling all grateful and indebted to anyone, no matter their part in his existence.

4. It never occurs to him to lie about his name. He's not much of a liar in the first place, beyond the occasional gentle misleading, but no matter who is asking his name his answer will always be "Allelujah". The reason for it is pretty simple: it's more than a label to him. The sole individual in that place who treated him as more than an experiment - because even the other experiments could hardly forget what they and those around them were - gave him this name. It's a symbol of who is he as a person, and to call himself by anything else is to come too close to setting that link to Marie and humanity aside and...he can't do it. He doesn't even try to.
4b. Being called E-57 hurts a lot more than he'll ever let on. If he ever refers to himself like that, it's a sure sign he's not in a good place.

5. He is a killer, and it's not always something he fights against. Obviously he doesn't go out of his way to hunt down people and slaughter them, and while a Meister he preferred to disable and leave the pilots alive if he could, but he didn't sit in a corner and weep after every mission. Oh, he packs the guilt down tightly, and he doesn't allow himself to feel killing is ever a good thing, but he does feel that it's necessary sometimes. It's actually not often that he hesitates out in the field, not when he's properly in a Gundam Meister state of mind. Mind you, he's also aware of this trait, and that in turn can make him feel like a right monster; the whole issue is very tangled in his head. Most of the time he tries to put it all aside and just follow the damn orders.
5b. You'd have to pull his teeth to get him to admit it - and maybe more, he's actually quite good at withstanding torture, cough - but sometimes he does miss being in military surroundings. The presence of his comrades lessens this, and the arrival of Marie really lessens it, but Somarium can still make him feel a little lost. Hallelujah's observation that all he can do is fight was particularly touchy because a fair chunk of him honestly believes that, and just living in a day-to-day, mostly peaceful environment can sometimes be more unsettling than soothing.
