[Most of his face is obscured due to the placement of the communicator on the counter, but a down-turned corner of a lip and a narrowed eye can be seen (leading one to think that something must be amiss for such a handsome young man to be scowling in such an unbecoming manner). A bit of flour (or something) can be seen on his chin, probably left ( Read more... )

[Kind of cute...she ponders this...]

Pearl ash?

[He picks up the communicator and frowns, a bit confused]

Excuse me? I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with... pearl ash.

A leavening agent. It's used when making soap, as well...[not that it is the soap, that would be nasty. She ponders some more...]

I suppose you could use alcohol of some sort.

[He hesitates]

Alcohol... in bread? Are you sure about that?

Baking soda...?

[ These strange cooking chemicals, she has never heard of them. :|a ]

...I-I'm not sure about this baking soda, but have you tried using any salt? I always add a little of that to my bread recipes and they turn out just fine...

[[ ooc: Although Mel is awesome at baking things, her mun...isn't, so if I screw up I'm sorry ;A; ]]

[A quizzical look]

Baking soda, when used in cooking, is a leavening agent. It is a salt, but I don't think it is the salt you're talking about.

[He pauses a moment, thinking to himself]

You mean table salt, correct? It's certainly an ingredient I've used in several recipes, more than I can count, I'm afraid it is not capable of making the bread rise...

[ Did you happen to mention food, Lelouch. Because Kyouko (apparently now aka the miniature black hole) is all over any mentions of food. ]

Baking soda, huh..? Sorry, can't say I have much experience with baking that sorta stuff, so I guess I can't help you on that one.

[ There's a slight pause, but then her mouth stretches out into a grin - perhaps even slightly cheeky. ]

But if you need someone to test taste stuff, I'm always available.

[His eyes narrow a bit. The only person he's ever had taste test things for him has been Nunnally... and he wishes to keep it that way. And this girl is so brazen, asking to taste his baking project before it has even been put into the oven and not even offering any advice (it matters not to Lelouch that she had no experience).

However, he wishes to make a good impression, so that almost-frown is quickly covered up by a delightful smile.]

With the way things are going, I may actually need somebody to taste the bread and make sure it's edible!

[ If anyone would look for an indication of manners in Kyouko, they'd probably end up disappointed. It's what living on the streets on your own and even having to steal food just to get through another day does to you after a while.

Still, she does look somewhat genuinely happy at his reply. ]

Heh, if that's an offer, I'd gladly take it up. I pretty much have a stomach of steel by now, so even if it would end up badly you wouldn't have to worry about anything.

I highly doubt that my bread will be so bad it will need a stomach of steel...

[He's rather touchy about his talents]

I'm afraid I don't know much about cooking [doesn't need to eat, after all] but I hope that you are somehow successful in making your bread.

[He laughs a bit]

Thank you! I hope it's successful, too. It's my fault for taking on such a large project before checking to see if all of the ingredients were available.

What will you do if you can't find them?

I'm... not exactly sure. [A pause] I suppose I'll have to throw everything away since I can't complete a bread recipe without some sort of leavening agent.

I'm not sure what sort of alternatives there are to that - the places we've been to were a little limited in that department.

That cookbook should be in the kitchen, though. It might have an idea somewhere. Beyond that, I suppose it's mostly a case of being careful with the batter...

The cookbook... I don't believe I've seen a cookbook, though that could be due to the fact that I wasn't really looking for a cookbook.

[He raises an eyebrow]

You seem rather familiar with the kitchen, do you cook?

Mm. You'll probably see a lot of me, if you spend time there.

Have you any suggestions on how to tailor this recipe to the ingredients we have available? I know we're limited. [A beat] This is the first time I've been in the kitchen cooking something on my own, so I'm not exactly as familiar with everything as I would like to be.
