#66 - The Ruins by Scott Smith (I Am So Going Out Of Order)

OMG, omg omg. Yes, I know, I haven't reviewed the other fifty books on my list. BUT OMG. I can't just leave this review by the wayside and expect to be able to go back and review with the same amount of happy terror.

Yes, I said it, HAPPY. TERROR. ♥ Yes, yes, I'll start reviewing the other books. FINE.

Did the book reveal the monster to be something other then hungry plant? That's all I remember it being in the movie.

They kind of hinted that it wasn't just a plant, but what really made me happy was they didn't reveal much else. There's a part where Jeff starts pulling back some of the vines and Amy (who is a lot different in the book) sees yellow rocks that remind her of teeth, but she refuses to think that so they're rocks. And then later Jeff kind of muses on the fact that it might not be a plant at all, just made to look like one.

LOL, that annoys me! I don't like mystery dang it, I like ALL THE ANSWERS. XD

LOL! I honestly can't think of a way they'd ever find out all the answers without completely killing the book. I mean, the Mayans didn't speak a lick of Spanish (and it's not like they'd let anyone close enough to talk anyway) so they'd never be able to say anything and the main characters wouldn't know either. And the vines eat away at everything organic so nothing on paper would be left behind...

And honestly, I think the vines are more terrifying when you just don't KNOW. I mean, how on earth do you explain away laughing vines? (That's where Stephen King screws up imo, btw. He tries to explain things when they were more frightening otherwise.)
