Crazy... Extend the tax cuts indefinitely.  Really?  Maybe temporarily for small businesses.  But extending them for the very,very rich seems ludicrous when they are doing very well and the rest of the country is falling apart around them, unable to get the job training and services needed.  Are ( Read more... )

For one, I am completely befuddled at how Republicans keep saying that we need to curb government spending and that it is the Democrats who spend governments money... did they all fall asleep during the Iraq war? Where Bush, a Republican, spent more money than has ever been spent before. How is it that beyond out of control government spending was fine then, but a modest democratic spending of money to help kickstart the economy back and provide healthcare for all citizens? I still, to this day, don't get that ( ... )

When I think of the Tea Party I realize something important: you can get people to do or believe anything you want...if you just appeal to their natural bigotry. Appeal to the lowest, basest, most disgustingly xenophobic tendencies of humanity and you will always win over the majority.

That and guilt. Convince people that the only real motivator is money, that if you are not earning it you just aren't working hard enough.

That does seem to be the magic of our system/capitalism, in that everyone is convinced that not only is it possible to elevate yourself in this world, but that where you end up is a direct consequence of your own effort. It dangles the carrot that says 'you too can become a millionaire', but only if you prop up the system that exists today. People seem to sacrifice so much just to exist in a system where there is a chance, however small, that they could become rich; when the alternative would be an almost guaranteed good life, but no chance of becoming filthy rich ( ... )
