I'll ask around. I know of at least 4 people that are graduating from CMU this term. Not sure if all of them will be taking their cars.

This strikes me as odd, because I had a new engine dropped into my Toyota a few years back for just under $1500. Then again, dealership prices should come with a bottle of lube. Try somewhere else.

Consider a personal loan from the bank. That's what Erik did to get his truck. The real problem is your commute, which apparently will be remedied once you move. So I think you should rearrange your priorities to moving first & fixing vehicle second.

Realistically, though, a one day car rental is relatively cheap compared to your other options/needs. That's also within the price range of what once can reasonably hope to bum off friends/relatives on short notice as well.

Izzat a brand new engine, a rebuilt engine, or a swap from a similar car? Is that just the engine or is that engine & parts & labor?

If it's new/rebuilt & labor included, sounds about right. If not...

Good luck with the car. I'll put feelers out if people are looking to sell.

It's a dealer quote, so it's a little high. It was for a used engine, I didn't get into whether it was a full rebuild or not. The total price including all parts and labor I was quoted was $2956.30.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
