There is a famous thought experiment in which prisoners are being coerced for information. They are put in isolation and individually questioned, knowing the exact stakes in question. Here they are: if you don't tell the men anything, they cut off one of your fingers (or something else very valuable but quantifiable) and move to the next prisoner.

If everyone (number n) tells the guards something, do they each loose zero fingers or n - 1? That is, are the fingers cut off after each question to each person, or at the end of asking everyone?

"Yes, yes, yes!"? Why would one encourage cheating from either standpoint? unless you are being facetious there and I can't tell.
