I know no one reads LJ anymore, but I'm posting this anyway:
Favorite Album of '08 - Crystal Castles - Crystal CastlesThis was basically a landslide victory- I was in love with this album the first time I heard it

It's not that *no one* is on LJ these days... it's just become a mere shadow of its former self. The amount of posts on my friends list is like less than 10% of what it was five years ago, which makes me feel incredibly old and irrelevant :-(
I'm glad you still post regularly- I just wish everyone else did, too.
I haven't exactly noticed a waning in LJ. Perhaps because most of my friends list hasn't "defected" to MySpace or Facebook completely. But yes, I guess certain friends I have noticed don't post except once in a blue moon lately.
I know that facebook and myspace are supposed to have blog functions. I haven't investigated them. They just seem like websites that are completely oriented toward "HEY, I'M OUT THERE AND IN YOUR FACE." Whether it's just my ignorance of those sites or not, LJ seems to have more ... privacy options? Wrong term for it. Something. Blah. Brain no work.
it is a shame that lj has really seemed to taper off a lot over the past year so (particularly the past 6 months). facebook is fun, but there is almost no substance to it at all. there are a ton of neat things you can do there, but the sort of entry you had here wouldn't really work there. and i have read many really deep, emotional entries on lj and all you mostly get from facebook is that somebody bought new pants or something.of course i am exaggerating, but you get the idea. lj was really cool a couple of years back.
i have gone through huge phases where i never posted, but i would read and comment on journals. a couple of months ago, i would post all the time and only get any feedback 1/4 of the time at best. that sort of gets old. i don't suppose it can regain much popularity now that the myspace and facebook are so big. i think those sites fit better into the add culture that is the norm nowadays. oh well.
Yeah, I feel kind of hypocritical because I hardly post now. But that's largely been true for several years- I tend to be an intermittent poster.
But I also tend to want to write more personal, below-the-surface type stuff, which LJ seems clearly better for than Facebook. Facebook is sort of like the pleasant nod or greeting you give an acquaintance you pass in a hall, while LJ is more like a meaningful conversation among friends, which I vastly prefer.
It's also really sad for me, as these sites are basically my only link back to most of my friends, and when none of them ever say anything, it's almost like they've ceased to be :-(
i second the last one. honestly, i'm surprised that bush/cheney didn't declare a state of emergency and hang onto the white house. that was my biggest fear.
I am an avid reader (break time at work) and find it to be far more entertaining than myspace/facebook. Those sites sem to monitor your popularity as an online entity more than convey personal info. Lj is a personal soap box, which I am far more interested in since I respect all of my friends. I think it's awesome that so many of our friends often disagree/agree. I hope it doesn't go away.
