vito_excalibur and I were just talking about this on the way home from gaming Sunday. Turns out, a large part of the reason that you don't know who your character is until you start playing them is that a large part of who you are comes from how others react to you.

So, in our case, first session while travelling together Vito's guy gets nervous and tries to kill my guy. And my guy is all "alas again I reach out and again I am stabbed" which leads to him being glum which leads to other PCs remarking on how sad he is which leads to him being just incredibly depressed. It was an option the whole time, but there were other options that didn't happen...
