Best (?) Picture

There have been, what, 85 or 90 Best Picture Oscar winners so far? Somewhere around there. Um, I like "Saving Private Ryan". I felt it could have done without the American flag flying at the beginning and the end and I remember it dragging a bit in the middle (I haven't seen it in a long while). But overall I thought it was a really impressive exciting war movie ( ... )

Hey, that's fine. I'm not saying nobody should like Saving Private Ryan, or that everyone has to like Shakespeare in Love. I'm pissed off at the people who dislike the latter because of the former.

I haven't seen Schindler's List yet myself. There are other Best Pictures that I'm a little embarrassed about having missed, like The Best Years of Our Lives and The Lost Weekend. I also haven't seen The Bridge on the River Kwai since I was little (Pop took me to see a double feature of that and The Guns of Navarrone in the theater on a snow day). The same for Lawrence of Arabia, and I haven't seen Annie Hall since I was about twenty. I need to re-watch those.

EDIT: I haven't even heard about Moliere, but if it's like Stoppard's Shakespeare work, I bet I'll love it. I'll check it out. Thanks!

I'm with you on this, Son. Of course, I haven't seen BOYHOOD yet. I'll correct that soon. But, I'm with you in regard to the principle you espouse....
