Facebook conversations are...well, sub-optimal. The site is good at what it does, but it isn’t great for really discussing things at length, for several reasons. I tend to keep text files of conversations I've had, or the ones I've put thought and writing into anyway, for just the same reason. They're just too hard to come back to on FB.

I agree with your point of view here. Most people are just a job loss or a major illness away from poverty and we can't go second-guessing the intentions of everybody that needs to draw benefits. True, there will always be some people who abuse the system, but those people are in the minority. It's your average person who has paid their taxes and is in really desperate straits who suffers the most from KS's way of thinking.

Also, I bet he's really popular at family dinners.

I also think it's problematic to rely on criminalizing everything that we don't like. I think turning people into criminals for actions that, while not good, are still those that could be handled in other ways. Criminalizing people only means that they will have an even harder time getting back on their feet. The US has an itchy finger on the trigger when it comes to punitive actions for even slight infractions.

At the same time, I can understand the frustration of knowing there are those out there who abuse the assistance fellow citizens make available. I guess it can make one feel violated.
