I actually just commented on this on another friends journal.
Though I agree with the wording they want to change, I don't feel it will do as much good concerning abuse/neglect/etc. as a lot of activists seem to think it will.
The wording is right, but it won't change many people's attitudes of: "It's just a dog/cat/rabbit/bird/hamster/animal." Most people are too stupid to get the necessary light bulb that announces, "I am their guardian, not their owner. There's a difference."
I totally agree with you. From my train of thought, a owner is someone who owns property. A guardian is one who cares for another being. There is a difference but I wouldn't spend my energy and time lobbying for it. If it happens, great, if not, that's fine too.
Pets are definately a responsibility. That's why I only have a rubber fish named Herman. The most I have to do is add water when it evaporates, maybe clean the bowl once a year or so. He's not very snuggly and he doesn't love me, but he's low maintenance. And he will not die--because he was never alive.
