(no subject)
WELL OK, hi. What's up. OK.
After both my computers got to the point of no return in terms of crapulence (the desktop because I've been abusing it for almost four years and a laptop because it came with Vista, but not the processing power to actually function on Vista) I decided to do some computer repair work. Several invocations of Murphy's Law later, I have a desktop that: insist it's copy of XP is illegal, a firefox that won't scroll pages without freezing up (WHAT? HOW DID I DO THAT!), and does not believe me when I tell it that, yes, it really really does have a graphics and sound card. I also have a laptop that: can not, no matter what I or the dweeb I got off Craig's List try, will not find its wireless card. Oh, right, and it's running Ubuntu. Guys. Guuuuuys. Anyone who tells you Ubuntu is "pretty easy to pick up" and "basically like MacOS" is a lying liar with pants constantly ablaze. I was confused on page one of the manual sob sooooob.
And in addition to going from 2 working-if-slow-and-buggy-and-pissing-me-off computers to two computers that... I can only use about 2/3rds of each, I need to be looking for a new job, or a second job or some way for me to be obtaining more Earth monies.
IN SHORT: semi-not-hiatus. I should really be working on job applications any time I can stand to be on the desktop, and any time I am on the laptop I will be weeping into my Ubuntu For Dummies (Please, O Lord, let such a book exist). I'm not saying I won't be threading, but I am saying that they'll be less of it. It's also quite possible that there is yet another pooch to be screwed during this delightful comedy of error-messages and I will suddenly and without warning be netless for... well who can say. PS DOES ANYONE KNOW A GOOD IRC PROGRAM FOR LINUX, because Purple Pigeon is pig disgusting.
