I can't help it. I looked at the real-time total for this and it's up at $16,000. Eight grand. Eight fucking grand. In the space of the last five hours, people have donated $3,000. In *five hours*. Never underestimate stupid people in large groups ( Read more... )

You're talking about the opoverty thing, not the cataract surgery, right?

Because I kind of have a funny opinion on that sort of surgery.

Both. Just two places that money could have gone, there's thousands more.

Okay, now you have to tell me :)

I guess I got it confused with another surgery. But bsically, in short, my real mother has diabetes and didn
t take care of herself and had to get surgery on her eyes like, six or seven years ago, maybe longer, and she's been legally bind ever since. I don't know. I kind of think she deserved it, in a harsh way, but in reality, that's a horrible thing to wish, you know, your mother being blind for the rest of her life, but she kind of did it to herself.

Not cataract surgery.

Oh, jeez :/ That's harsh for her. My dad had laser surgery on his eyes a couple months ago and can't see anything from a few feet away from him. He can now read perfectly, though. I think he's an idiot.

Training myself! I'm normally dead by 11pm, but I'm working until 2am tonight, and falling asleep at work will not be good. Meh.

I think it's cool when fans get involved to save their favourite shows, but I can't believe they've raised that kind of money and they're just using it in that way. You're right, they could do so much with that kind of money... my Mom works for a children's charity as well, that sponsors kids in poor countries, so my family and I are definitely really conscious about that kind of thing, and about how small amounts can make such a big difference in people's lives.

I don't mind random fan campaigns. They're usually funny and weird and amusing. This one just makes me despair. That money could have done, so, so much.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people with a disposable income.
