"it feels like an excuse for people who haven't been able to call me or return my calls to pretend to be friends"

*cringe*

This would be my place to make an excuse, but... I won't insult you.

I think that the older we get, the less exciting birthdays are. I haven't been excited about my birthday in about five years. That we try to hype it up, and then realize, oh. Another day. Hmmm.

And baby, you are never stupid. NEVER.

So if you don't want to be excited about your birthday, or can't be, that's absolutely cool. I'll be excited for you, is that ok? I'll be excited because you have survived another year, you have grown as a person, you've learned so much, and that's what I'm going to celebrate on your birthday.

*hug*

the only reason I get so excited about my birthday (well most of the reason) is because I feel like it's expected.
If you don't want to party, don't.
but you should at least celebrate it, go out to a nice dinner with Nick or something.
You will regret just letting it pass by, you know?

in any case, I love you.
