This book is so fucked up! I don't understand how anyone finds this sexy! It is horrible! Having a stalker is NOT SEXY! Been there, done that, I was creeped out the whole time and there was no fucking way I would have let him into my life! I did everything in my power to get rid of him!
I didn't even have a proper stalker. Like, I've never been harassed. I just had this guy who picked me up on the side of the road and then proceeded to send me a handful of really creepy texts about how redheads are his favourites and I was like get the fuck away from me and stay there. And that wasn't even stalking, really, because he stopped when I never acknowledged him, and I still could not get him out of my life fast enough.
I had one, he called me all the time, he called my work, he left messages with my co workers 5 and 10 times a day for months. It took months to get rid of him and it was horribly awkward.
That's why it's like... this is being portrayed as hot when he's like forcing her to keep in touch all the time and controlling who seh can talk to, etc. And as far as I recall, those things aren't even in the contract? I don't remember a section about her having to accept his "gifts" which aren't gifts as much as tools to control her.
Yes to this entire comment, seriously. And like... he pushes her into doing things and then it's like 'if you were a sub you would do this without complaint'. And he gives her these lavish gifts and he's like "I'm your Dom, it's my perogative to give you expensive gifts and you have to accept them." and she asks why he does it and he's like "because I want to give you things."
But it's like... he's not giving her things that she wants he's giving her things that he uses to control her. The macbook is given to her so that they can communicate through email whenever he wants/needs it. And the car is supposedly because her other one isn't safe, but it does strike me that this way, she has an expensive car and if he decides he wants to take it away from her again, she has no way to get around without his mercy. And the blackberry is solely given to her for the purpose of him being able to reach her at all times. Yes, really selfless gifts, these. Not like he gives her something she actually wants.
Another thing I do not understand is how in the hell this could have started off as a Twilight fanfic.
I know names were changed but I don't see a shred of Twilight in it because there was no sex til BD and even then it was not bdsm. This book is all about sex and dominance and manipulation on Christian's behalf.
I can see it, in a way. I think if Edward was to be a Dom, he'd be dysfunctional like this. And be a creepy stalker because...let's face it, he already is one in the actual books just in a less sexual way.
And I mean, yeah, Twilight was very very nonsexual, but I think in a way that this book does capture Edward and Bella's dysfunctional relationship just in a sexual way. Edward is manipulative, which Christian is too. And if you translate Edward's dominance as a vampire/something dangerous to Bella into something sexual, I can see how this happened.
But tbh, I think that if Edward and Bella were in a D/s relationship, Bella would be the Dom and he'd be the sub. XD
I can see the stalker aspect. I mean he followed her in Twilight to Port Angeles and snuck into her room and watched her while she slept with her unaware.
