That… [sighs] Aku asked both Nami and I to steal the whip of Simon Belmount. It’s a holy whip and can hurt him. If we didn’t he was going to kill our friends so I attempted to fool him into thinking the whip had been stolen and destroyed.

…is, is that the reason he took Nami? [Because he’s been assuming it is, but would love to hear it wasn’t.]

Undoubtedly he was not fooled. But no, that is not the reason. It seems she had other obligations that he meant for her to carry out. She refused.
