Here is my problem: I have too many ideas all the time, so many that I can't decide on what to spend time on and I end up doing nothing ( Read more... )

Karen, I think that almost everyone has these issues with creativity.

One solution is to purposely make bad art, just for the fun of creating. I keep a drawing book and I realised I was never drawing in it because I was scared to commit to paper incase it was bad. So eventually I started purposely drawing things that look crap. Just putting pencil to paper, and laughing at what came out, or criticizing it, thinking about what I didn't like about it. After a while of doing that, I started to like some of the things I produced. I had broken through the barrier of self consciousness by purposely making things that made me cringe (I would die if anyone saw the drawing book!) initially.

All three of your ideas sound awesome. I would love to see them!

Bad art! that sounds like a good idea. Yes I also sometimes shy away from committing to paper for fear of it being bad... so I will try this!

agree! i have a scratch book for arting but its so clean and nice paper i dont dare scribble in it. also I cant draw so when i do magic something its usually on file binders or lined paper and cant be done again.

I love bad art, like high school art like naked with jellyfish. A bit like when people swear in school plays, they make too much of it and it sticks out coz they try too hard.

whose underwear are they janelle? oo lah lah!

Yeh, I think I just like thinking. And then I think too much. And then I don't do. Is it bad not to "do"? Maybe not.

You could look at this from another perspective, the fact that your parents were not supportive of artistic pursuits makes you value it even more now ( ... )
