This is a fascinating look at the emotions involved in this sort of transition. I've never had this sort of relationship, I might not be built for it (and I know my wife isn't), so it's with some sense of wonder that I see it work for others. And that also leads to a lot of empathy for the roller coaster of emotions you're describing...I can imagine!
