Thanks so much. The way I'm looking at it - easier to lateral from litigation into transactional work rather than from nothing. It'll give me good experience at least. Any advice though on partisan writing? I haven't done it since first year of law school and kinda sucked at it then? Also - what are the absolutely necessary desk references?
Litigation is the most portable since those skills are applicable in all practice areas. As far as writing, remember, you are there to win for your client, not to write a law review article for the judge's edification. Be fair about the law, but push your version of the facts. You can't lie, obviously, but there's no reason to highlight bad facts. As far as desk references, I'd keep a copy of a grammar guide and the applicable landlord/tenant statute. Everything else is going to be online. You're going to do great.
Glad to see that you got a foot in the door. Even if it's a somewhat dubious, non-attractive door. See, we both finally graduated! And we have pay cheques!
