i agree, this is a stance ive taken before, you and i have discussed it. i think if you are going to convince someone of your view, they cannot be on the defensive. its tough too, to hold back screaming at someone because they belive what you feel is wrong. i dont know if i could hold back during a discussion with that guy. nick and i spent hours reading his journal and communities, just in awe ( ... )

Heh, "minority opinions". I wish! Yeah, you are totally alternative because you hate Ann Coulter. Oh, forget it. This is too old and I don't expect a reply. I don't know why you would spend hours reading my journal though. People like me are growing steadily in number by the day though, hehe. Scary or just normal?

I agree with what you are saying, you do have to treat ignorance not by lashing out but by trying to logically prove your ideas. However, I rarely think someone who is an extreme racist is willing to change their views... they tend to dismiss your ideas as brainwashing by a culture or the like.

I gave up trying to change minds a long time ago. I used to welcome the challenge with enthusiasm. But eventually I began to feel it was much ado about nothing; I am pretty staunch in my beliefs, or if you want you can say I'm set in my ways - they pretty much say the same thing. I'm always open to being proven wrong, but the condition is that I have to be convinced that the other point is right in order to accept it. That being said, I've chosen the standpoints I have pretty carefully, I think, so it's not easily that I'm convinced otherwise ( ... )

i guess what i was getting at is that you can't just challenge someone's overall worldview with a taunt and expect people to see the light...its better to just prove the details of their arguement wrong until the whole thing crumbles.

but that's not everyone's goal, and half the time its not mine either. but if one were to have that goal in mind, there are strategies that are more effective than others.
