CRPSA in Cincinnati

I just realized that I never posted photos from the City Planning Student Association trip to Cinci in February. Woops. These were taken with my old camera while it was mostly dead, so no good photograph quality, just a trip photos.

It was actually a great experience. Cinci has always been the big city that Daytonians would go to if need be (or ( Read more... )

Cincinnati definitely has some nice aspects! My dad used to live in Adams county where there's NOTHING to do (not even one movie theater) and we'd drive to Cinci to see movies, visit the conservatory, and the museums. That was one of my favorite periods of childhood, so I have fond sentiment towards Cincinnati (unlike my parents, who lived there before they had kids and who both still make an annoyed face when you mention it).

No movie theatre!?!? D: Ack!!

That's how my mom and that whole family is with Dayton. Cities used to be great, and then they got SO bad they really scared middle class + people off good. I'm happy that it's starting to reverse but I think our parents' generation will probably not ever come around!

Oh no, that's not what my parents' problem was (they definitely weren't middle class then!). They just hated the roads and most of the people and the lack of good (and varied) live music, etc... My mom had just moved from Boston and had lived in Santa Monica and Houston before that, so she was used to a better class of counter-culture than she found in Cincinnati.

Well middle class/white / white flight, when most of the cities, especially in the midwest hollowed out of the white/upper classes and left behind mostly the poor / people of color and all the shops/entertainment/offices/etc moved out to the suburbs- definitely why all our cities became totally devoid of culture around here! IMO Columbus is my favorite city in the east-midwest because it always has so much going on. Dayton never had anything really so It seems very glamorous to me! haha.

It's a pretty good area- and they are doing a lot to improve it, even getting a street car soon, which is very exciting!

Thanks :)

I love it in the summer when all the hills are so green, but I really got to see a lot more of the architecture this time which was also cool! :)
