I just got home from my last class of the quarter.  Sean and Jen handed back out Visual Analysis papers.  I got an A+ and a list of wonderful comments.  It was great news because that paper is 25% of my grade.  It was also nice to get a pat on the back as I go into my final exam study weekend.

The scary thing is, I've read stories about 4th and 5th graders handing in papers and things with such textisms.

And scarier? I even get work e-mails from some colleagues with things like this in them.

But yay for your A+! Congratulations!

OMG!!! Dat iz soooo cRaZy!!

Srsly, I have always wondered what the consequences of a generation raised on IM and phone text messages would do to the writing abilities of said generation. I wish I hadn't wondered.

It's shocking to me that this is new behavior for these college students, which makes me wonder what was in their high school papers and their college admission essays.

Actually, I need to learn from past mistakes and stop wondering.
