I dunno..I've never really thought about having a website for any reason other than commercial/art/specific information purposes. I would inevitably make it about something more than just myself, unless I was trying to market myself for some reason, like for a job or the like.
Now, you could make it a website based around specific interests, which you could then build upon by linking to other sites, such that you could direct people to it for fun, but it wouldn't come across as a 'Hi my name is..' type page. I dunno..most of my websites are so basic and barebones (with only marginally shiny web graphics) that I might be a bad example to follow. PHP? RSS? Heh, not for me. I even stopped using frames. Java and Flash were too much trouble too ^.^
Yeah, I've been thinking about making it a little site of interests which for me would end up being computers and baking... kind of weird, actually. Sort of a "digital loafing" page. ^.^; lol, ok, that was kinda silly.
I wouldn't know, though, what else to do with it. Stuff about me, the fam, the friends, vacations. Probably not too much interesting stuff for other people to see.
It'll probably be more fun to program it, than to fill it... >.<
