Sho was displeased with Kazu today for three things. First of all, his friend went on ahead to school without him, but they usually walk to school together. Secondly, he kept disappearing whenever Sho tried to talk to him about yesterday, or sometimes he just wasn’t there at all. Thirdly, Kazu claimed that he had an outing today with his baseball team which Sho would know the day before. He was beginning to think Kazu was hiding something. But what? They knew everything about each other.

By the time it was lunch, the time he always looked forward to with his best friend, he was nowhere to be seen. He asked a couple of his classmates, and a few who knew Kazu, where he was; they have no clue of his whereabouts. But some even assumed he was in the bathroom with some girl-- No, that was impossible. If Kazu had a girlfriend, he would know -- for as long as he knew him, Kazu had never been in a relationship. Stupid rumors.

He sighed dejectedly, feeling lost and alone without Kazu. Why would his friend, out of all those years they’ve stuck together, leave him alone now? Was there something wrong with him that Kazu hated?... Sho shook his head of these thoughts, refusing to believe that Kazu hates him. As he walked alone back to the classroom, he couldn’t help but stare at the ring on his finger. At least a small part of Kazu stayed with him.

Today was his first time eating lunch without Kazu...

“Did you hear? If anyone in this school ever finds out you’re gay, you’ll be thrown out for good.”

Sho stopped in his tracks, unable to pull himself away when he heard the word gay. He knew very well how wrong it was to eavesdrop, but he couldn’t help it. He had to at least know what the two girls were talking about.

“You know that kid, Sora? He got kicked out yesterday,” The first girl giggled.

“No way?!” The second girl gasped. “Wasn’t he this like popular guy?! I can’t believe he’s gay!”

“Yeah, well... He got caught by his parents also. Shucks for him, right?”

“Uh-huh. I feel kinda bad.. but they’re disgusting creatures. Why do they even exist?”

Sho just wanted to yell that they were being inconsiderate about their feelings, and that those guys were humans like them too. But he held his tongue, afraid that the girls would make fun of him and call him gay. They didn’t stay long when someone decided to drink from the water fountain. However Sho stayed behind, locking his gaze on the trees growing outside. So if he turns out to be gay too, no one will accept him? The more he thought about it, the more afraid he was. Especially for those boys he saw yesterday...

“Sho!”

He jumped in surprise from the sound of someone yelling so close to his ear. He was momentarily deaf for a couple of seconds until the ringing had stopped. “Who-- Kazu!” Sho couldn’t be more happier. His friend who had mysteriously disappeared all day (except during class) was besides him.

“It’s not like I was gone.”

“But you were... I was looking for you during lunch. I wanted to talk about--”

He was cut off the the school bell rang for class. Groaning, he allowed himself to be pulled by Kazu. The issue about yesterday will have to wait.

Turns out, Kazu did have an outing with his baseball team and Sho thought he lied just to avoid him. However, Kazu said he wasn’t going today. The reason? Sho didn’t know why. But he was glad that Kazu announced they were going to hang out today and party their hearts out at the karaoke. Since tomorrow is a weekend anyways, so it wouldn’t hurt to go out late at night. Sho would usually prohibit going out during school week.

“So what’s the special occasion?” Sho asked as soon as they were sat in their own room. “Is there something I’m forgetting?”

“Relax,” Kazu chuckled. “I want to hang out with my best friend today because I’ve been here and there. Sorry I left you hanging at school.”

“I already forgave you, Kazu. I can’t be mad at you, you know that.”

“Yeah... I was kind of hoping you were...”

Before Sho could question his friend, however, the music from the stereo began as the lights dimmed down. Kazu began to sang, his voice giving off a melodious feeling. But Sho didn’t let it distract him since he couldn’t forget about what Kazu said earlier. Be mad at him? Why would he? They’ve already gone past the point of getting mad at each other in the past since it ended up with cuts and bruises... Why would Kazu care now?

On another thought, the issue about yesterday still bothered him. He thought Kazu was sick, but looking at his current state seems like he won’t been sick anytime soon. After all, Kazu was strong and not even a single bug bit would scare the living crap out of him. As soon as the song ended, Sho took the chance.

“Kazu? Is there something bothering you lately? You always look so... distant when I talk to you about something...”

“Like what?”

“You know... the whole being gay issue?”

If he were to place a pencil in Kazu’s hand, he’d break it with only one hand by the look on his face. Sho was only able to see this for a second when it was replaced by a smile.

“What? Are you gay?”

“No!” Sho quickly denied, shaking his head when he remembered the two girls from school earlier. “Definitely not.”

“Then prove it. The first girl you see out there, grab her and bring her here. Prove to me you aren’t gay.”

“But...”

“Go, I’ll announce it to the whole world.”

“Kazu...”

“1...”

Sho got to his feet right away, afraid that if Kazu reached 3 the whole world will know how gay he was. However, before he left the room, he couldn’t help but notice Kazu’s face. The expression of pain and anger mixed into one expression that Sho immediately retreated back into the room. For a while, Kazu seemed dazed and didn’t notice his presence until he coughed.

“Oh... Where’s the girl? I thought you got one already?”

“I... I can’t do it,” He said. “I’ll do it tomorrow though! You better not tell everyone.”

“Alright... I promise I won’t...”

Their time at the karaoke wasn’t that long. It usually lasted till it lasted to 1am since they literally partied their heart out. But today was different, and Kazu barely spoke to him. All his friend ever did was sing, and he never took a break to give Sho a turn for the mic. Once the song ended, Kazu informed that he needed to get home. Something about family stuff.

However, Sho stayed behind for an hour more, singing about three songs until he was satisfied. When the song ended though, he didn’t feel that satisfied. He felt more empty and stupid for pushing his friend away. It seems that every time he touched the topic about being gay, Kazu seemed sensitive to it. He should consider about keeping his mouth shut... On the way home, he passed by Kazu’s house. None of the lights were on in the house except for the lights on the front yard. As he stared at his friend’s house, he fiddled with the ring on his finger.
