Jun refused to talk to us about Ikuta, but I could tell that he was still bothered about it. During rehearsals, he would daze off that by the end of our demo performance, it took a while to snap Jun out of his unblinking stare. Or whenever the five of us went out to drink or hung out at Aiba’s or Jun’s, it seemed like he wasn’t there at all. It came to a point where by the last week of rehearsals, Jun was no longer coaching us or criticizing us.

“He’s not okay,” Sho said as we all gathered at Aiba’s place. Although Jun was with us, Jun couldn’t hear at all what we were saying because he didn’t even react when we insulted him a million times (of course, we didn’t mean it).

“What should we do, guys?” Aiba asked desperately. He kept glancing at Jun and us every now and then.

“Well, we don’t want to meddle for sure,” Sho suggested. “We should somehow put them in the same room together. Alone.”

Aiba’s eyes lit up. “Oh! That’s not a bad idea. I could do that. I have a knack for that.”

I rolled my eyes because I couldn’t agree more. Once, in high school when I had another crush on a senpai, Aiba had somehow pulled off an excuse to get us alone. But when I tried to hit on the senpai, he rejected me right away and said that he had a girlfriend. A girlfriend, for goodness sake. I have a feeling that Aiba being involved in this will not end well. Then again, Aiba is the reason why I had scored a few times in the later years of our high school…

“Isn’t that meddling?” Ohno asked.

Aiba shook his head. “Not if it happens naturally.”

“Ah,” the four of us shook our head in realization and agreement.

“Tell us how it turns out, Aiba,” I told him as Ohno and I got up.

“Okay!”

I seriously don’t know how Aiba did it, but with a few excuses for Ikuta and Jun, he got them to be alone in Aiba’s room. Aiba promised that he won’t record it visually, but he did leave his phone there and used Sho’s phone to eavesdrop on them.

“This is really a bad idea,” Sho said as he tried to snatch his phone from Aiba, who easily won because of his height. “And this is an invasion of their privacy!”

“It was your idea,” I reminded him. “Besides, it’s too late. Ssh! I hear them.”

We retreated to Aiba’s younger brother’s room, glad that he let us use it for the time being. We waited for something to happen, but all we could hear was the both of them clearing their throat. Even though I wasn’t there, I could feel how horribly awkward the entire room was.

“So Aiba called us here,” Ikuta was the one who finally broke the awkward silence. ”What do you think he wants?”

”Beats me,” came Jun’s voice a second later. ”He should be here soon. I don’t have the time for this.”

I rolled my eyes. Jun definitely had the time for this because he had finished assessing our rehearsals earlier this morning.

Then there was the sound of someone standing up and footsteps heading off somewhere. ”I’m gonna go ahead,” Jun said. “Tell Aiba that--”

”Stay.”

”Toma, I really can’t. I--”

Someone stood up as well, which must have been Ikuta. ”Jun, I’ve missed you, okay? I don’t want you to leave again without saying goodbye. What happened -- what you saw happened -- was nothing. It was a misunderstanding.”

Jun clicked his tongue. ”If it was, why did Shun smirk when he saw me?”

The four of us glanced at each other. This was definitely getting interesting.

“After you left, he admitted to trying to steal me from you. But, please if you still love me, trust me that nothing happened.”

”Then why didn’t you call me for those five years?”

”I did… No, I tried to. But knowing you, you’ll never answer. So when I came here and I heard that you were in town, I thought that this was finally the chance to get you back.”

”I-I don’t know if that is still possible.”

Aiba covered the speaker. “Oh my, God! Jun should just say yes! It sounds so obvious that he wants to be with Toma-chan!”

Everyone shushed him in reply.

”Then I’ll do anything. I promise. I want to be with you again, Jun. For five years, I haven’t been with anyone. I swear it.”

”I… haven’t been with anyone either,” Jun laughed bitterly. ”But if you really mean it then…”

Aiba pressed the end button and we were all unable to hear what Jun was going to say next. I wanted to slap Aiba on the head for that, but I could already tell that we didn’t need to listen anymore because Jun sounded like he was ready to have Ikuta in his life again. Even if it’s going to take a while.

Matsumoto and Ikuta went home after their conversation had finished. Afterwards, Sho went home as well so Ninomiya and I decided to head home too. I held onto his hand as he walked, not caring at all that people were giving us disgusted looks. “I’ve been thinking about something, Kazu.”

“Oh? What is it?”

“I don’t want to end up like Jun and Ikuta-san.”

“Eh? W-where’s this coming from? And of course, that’ll never happen.”

“But we’re so unsure of the future, Kazu.”

“We can worry about the future later on.”

“Aren’t you worried?”

Ninomiya tugged on my hand and pulled me towards dark alley before enveloping me in a hug. This surprised me because Ninomiya barely made a move on me. I hugged him back and rested my chin on his shoulder.

“Of course, I’m worried,” Ninomiya said with a shaky sigh. “We won’t end up like them, I promise.”

“Then…”

“I’ll tell you a story. But now is not the time.”

“Huh? Why not?”

“Because…” Ninomiya trailed off. I really couldn’t see his face, but by the sound of his voice I could tell that he was troubled. With my free hand, I lifted his chin up and planted a kiss on his lips. They were quivering, but then it relaxed when our lips met.

“I can wait, Kazu.”

“Thank you, Satoshi. I… I really appreciate it.”

“Shall we go home now, then?”

“Yeah, we shall.”

The following day, during rehearsals, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I saw Ikuta with Jun and they were conversing like old friends. They were smiling and laughing that it kind of creeped me out. Anyway, the important question was: What the hell was Ikuta doing here?

“Alright, everyone settle down!” Jun yelled as he walked up to the stage with Ikuta following closely behind him. “Today, I have an important person to introduce. He and I worked before as partners in school, but we went our separate ways: a chef and a dancer do not combine well. Although he is a chef, he is very skilled. So starting from today, he will join me in assessing and coaching everyone.”

“Hello! I’m Ikuta Toma!” Ikuta introduced himself and bowed. Everyone in the room except Ohno and I gasped. I could hear everyone whispering Ikuta’s surname here and there.

“And yes, I am the son of Ikuta Shichiro of Ikuta Ramen.”

Everyone gasped and soon the entire cast was talking over each other.

“Calm down, everyone!” Jun yelled and it took a few times until everyone finally closed their mouths. “Other than that, he will provide us ramen every now and then.”

At the sound of ramen, everyone cheered. We were all so hyped up that our rehearsal performance today was even better than before… when rehearsals were over and everyone left but Ohno, Jun, Ikuta and me, I couldn’t help but notice Ikuta and Jun smiling widely at each other.

So, this is what he meant when he would do anything. I sniggered. Aiba’s and Sho’s plan worked out after all.
