Sakurai Sho thought of nothing more but his kingdom and how he can make it better for his people, and his small family. No matter how many angles he tried to achieve this goal, he just couldn’t figure an easier way without spending the whole kingdom’s money. He was at a loss that even the noble secretary and close friend, Taisuke Fujigaya, had no other ideas.

Ever since his father, who had passed away, gave him the kingdom without the concerns of getting married, he thought that he would clean up his father’s mess and do even better than his father did. However, there was no hope in that goal anymore for months had passed without him noticing. The kingdom continued to suffer from the aftermath of a war between his kingdom and the next one over, rebels were yet to be found, and it became more difficult to reconstruct.

Sho sighed as he leaned his head on his hand. “What am I going to do?”

“What was that sir?” Came his secretary’s voice from his desk in the farther corner of the room.

“It’s... It’s nothing,” He lied, “Just keep on working.”

“Yes, sir,” He replied before he did as he was told.

Sho sighed again as he stood up and walked towards the balcony that overlooked the village. It looked as if the war just happened yesterday. The houses were in ruins, children were crying or walking around aimlessly looking for their parents, and his kingdom was under a very dark sky.

Since the war, it neither rains or shines and his people barely smiled. There were no more parties at night, monthly events, or cheerful shouts of joy parading through his kingdom. It was as if the war was the end of them, a reason to cease in existence.

“Sir?”

“Yes, Taisuke?”

“We... We may have someone who can help...”

Sho immediately turned to the young secretary as he heard the words of (possible) hope came out of his mouth. “Who is it?!” He asked eagerly as thoughts, ideas, and plans of fixing his kingdom rushed in his mind.

“It’s...” The secretary sighed. To Sho, it looked like it was more a bad news than a good one. “...Ohno Satoshi...”

The thoughts, ideas, and plans of fixing his kingdoms shattered in his head like a fragile glass as soon as he heard that name. That name in which he hates so much, the Ohno’s who had done this to his kingdom.

“But how is it possible?!” Sho fumed, “There is no way I’ll let him help us!”

“But sir... He’s our only hope!”

Sho snarled. “Isn’t there other kingdoms less demeaning than that lot?!”

The latter shook his head. “No, sir. I’ve already checked.”

“Then check again!” He yelled. “I don’t care if it’s from another country, another region, another race, or another being as long as it’s not them.”

His secretary went to work right away, going through scrolls after scrolls. There should be at least someone who can support him even from across the seas. There should at least be someone--

There was a light knock on the door, interrupting Sho’s train of thoughts. He cleared his throat, “Come in.”

A knight from the grounds came in. “Your majesty, there is a guest who wishes to speak with you.”

“May I know his name?” He asked before deciding to move from his spot.

“He didn’t give it, your majesty. He said it’s urgent.”

“Then tell him I’ll be down in a few.”

“Yes, your majesty.”

As Sho watched the knight respectfully bow before leaving, he wondered who this guest was. They haven’t had guest since his father’s last party on Earth, and no one bothered to stop by a ruined kingdom; not even for shelter from whatever forces corrupting their beings. Either way, it must be really important considering that the guest had unnamed himself.

Sho was already finished fixing his gown when he heard the giggling of his younger brother. It was definitely loud, but he hasn’t heard him laugh like that in a long time since the war. Curiously, he followed their sounds of laughter and ended up on the first floor of the castle.

Besides the fireplace was a man facing the fire, dressed in lavish, ocean-blue clothing decorated with gold ornaments as if he came from a royal family. Sho couldn’t find a certain emblem on the man’s clothing to signify where he came from.

“Ah! Brother!” 10 year old prince Shu exclaimed, his tiny fingers pointing directly at him.

“Afternoon,” his teenaged sister, princess Mai, curtsied as he walked towards them, “Would you like some tea?”

Sho nodded his head and she was gone in an instant. Shu, on the other hand, continued to run around the guest with a trinket in his hand. Sho had never seen it before, but it must have come from the guest as a gift.

“May I know who you are?” Sho asked politely as he grabbed his brother playfully and tickled him.

“Not yet,” the man answered without facing him. “But I believe I may be of some help to your kingdom.”

Sho’s eyes brightened up before he shooed his brother away to his sister. “Really? I... I don’t know what to say.”

“You don’t have to say anything,” the man sighed, “I guess I’ll be in your care then?”

“O-of course!” Sho immediately agreed as he and the man stood up all the same. “I’ll also be in yours.”

“I’m glad,” He heard the man sigh happily.

As soon as Sho thrust his hand out for a shake, the man finally turned around. Sho swore he felt his heart do impossible things in his chest as he eyed the man’s serene expression. Never has he once met someone who made his heart race so fast that he felt he was close to death. But the man’s face... there was something oddly familiar about it.

“Shall we start tomorrow?”

Sho nodded, still at a loss for words as he continued to stare at the man.

“Is there something on my face?”

Sho immediately shook his head, feeling very hot as the man lightly chuckled. “It’s just that...” You’re beautiful “...nothing. Nevermind. Where did you say you were staying at again?”

“I didn’t,” The man mumbled.

“Then, you don’t mind if you stay at my castle?”

“I don’t mind. Shouldn’t you mind?”

Sho mentally smacked himself in the face. “I... I don’t! The first door up, the stairs, to your right!” Was the last thing he told the man before he raced off to find a knight to escort him.

Whatever effect that man had on him, it was definitely working.

Months after months passed by and Sho realized it was the start of a new year. He was just so preoccupied with his plans with the unnamed man that he didn’t even notice everything around him.

However, those past few months, he felt a change in himself to become a better King to his people. It wasn’t what he was working on, and neither was it the change of weather. It was the unnamed man, and everyday, Sho grew curious as to who he really is, and what is the meaning of a strange feeling he gets whenever the man is near.

One day, as they were both working on a plan to rebuild the villager’s farms, Sho gathered up all the courage he had to ask. All the man did was smile before going back to work. Every time Sho did this, the man would react the same way as if the question was not at all important.

“Who do you think he is?” Sho asked his secretary as he watched the man below from his balcony.

“I don’t know sir... He’s a kind man.”

“He is indeed, but I still don’t know his name yet.”

“Do you want me to find out, sir?”

Sho thought about it before answering. His secretary was an adept at finding information through however many resources, and he was someone he can rely on other than his siblings. Then again, it would be better to wait for the man to say it himself.

“No, it’s ok,” Sho finally decided. “I’ll find out myself.”

And he tried just that by asking his siblings about him; both had no idea who he was. He even tried every villager the man had gotten close to and all answered similarly as his siblings. If possible, he can never find out, he’ll just have to wait for the man to say it himself. Just trying so hard to find something he can’t will add twice to the weight on his shoulders. So he decided to wait curiously as he continued to work besides him.

Sho, out of kindness, hosted a celebration party one afternoon, inviting everyone in his kingdom. It was a huge party, but it looked like everyone seemed to know each other well. Even his secretary was out with his friends since he had given him a day off. When Sho saw all this, the ground beneath him suddenly brightened as he stared at it. Then it grew brighter, and brighter, and brighter. This was enough to convince Sho that the skies had finally lifted up.

“Ma, look!” He heard a little girl shriek happily as she pointed at the radiating sun. “It’s the sun!”

“Oh, my,” The mom gasped, “You’re right. Everyone, look!”

So everyone did and they all gasped the same. Some began to cry and some began to cheer. Suddenly, as if everyone’s jubilant spirits were lifted into the sky, there came a little droplet one after another until it multiplied and showered over the villagers. Sho’s knights immediately ran to him for cover, but he refused and allowed himself to be soaked in rain.

“Finally,” Sho sighed contentedly as he shot his arms out, “It’s raining...”

“I’m glad to see you smiling,” came a soothing voice despite the hard and loud rain.

Sho jumped backwards in surprised and was caught before he slipped to his death.

“I’m sorry,” the unnamed man chuckled, “I didn’t mean to startle you.”

“I-it’s ok!” Sho chirped as the latter helped him to his feet.

“But are you ok?”

Sho nodded his head. “Y-yeah... I-I think...”

“I’m glad,” the man smiled a minute long before it fell down like the raindrops. “But I’m afraid I have to leave soon... As you can see, I am no longer needed here.”

“What?” Sho inhaled, “But I still need your help. Please, don’t leave just yet.”

The man shook his head. “Sorry, I can’t. You were able to work even without me, your majesty, I have noticed since three months after we agreed to help your kingdom.”

“That’s not true!” Sho objected. “I... I need you!”

“What’s that--”

Sho refused to let the man continue as he grabbed the man by his head and brought him closer till their faces were centimeters apart. “I need you...”

Sho closed his eyes as he sealed the man’s lips with his. The man didn’t move and he seemed all too shock to move. Sho thought he had done something impulsively wrong that he was about to pull away, but not when strong arms wound their way around his waist.

“I didn’t ask you to stop,” The man smiled, “I was just happy you felt the same way as me.”

“You...”

“I love you,” the man confessed, “I’ve loved you since we first met.”

“I... love you too,” he confessed, finally understanding the weird feeling he had in his chest. “I--”

“Ohno!” Came a very loud and booming voice from behind the man he was holding, “It’s about time, you came home!”

“Papa!” The man he was holding gasped. “Why--”

“You--” Sho pulled away as soon as he realized what the situation was and the reason why the man looked so oddly familiar. “You did all this to trick me?!”

“No, Sho I--”

“Satoshi!”

The man, the man he loved and trusted, was the son of the King that had caused his father’s to die, and caused the kingdom to go through such a depression. That man who he allowed to live with him, eat in the same dinner table, and the man he has kissed was his sworn enemy.

“I can’t believe you!” Sho spat. “You came all this way to watch me have fun and then you bring your father to destroy it again!”

“I didn’t!” Ohno cried. “I swear. I really love you, Sho.”

“I don’t believe you,” Sho snarled as pure hatred filled his heart. “I hate you. Take your father and leave before we call for war again!”

“But Sho I--”

“Satoshi!” The hated man called for his son again, “Come home.”

“I--”

Sho turned away from him, unable to face Satoshi for fear he’ll stab him in the heart No matter what, whoever he was to him, Sho would never allow himself to cry. But thankfully, he had the rain to cover his tears as he walked towards his castle, ignoring Satoshi screaming his name...

Weeks had passed since he was gone and the kingdom was finally at peace again. Everyone was smiling, throwing parties, and clamoring about the wonderful happenings to the kingdom. First, there were noble men and women coming in and out of the kingdom to see what it had turned into. They came from where the news could reach its farthest, and with presents that he had given to his villagers. Sho was happy to that everything was better again, but he knew something was missing. He clearly knew what it was, but he refused to acknowledge it.

"Your majesty," He heard his kind sister sigh as she say besides him. "I can't bare to see you so sickly thin. Please eat, I'll have the servants make you lunch."

"No, it's ok," Sho mumbled as he grasped his sister's hand, "But I'm fine, thanks for being concerned."

"Brother!" He heard Shu yell behind his bedroom door. "Other brother came to visit!"

Sho chuckled. "We don't have another brother. It's only us three."

"I... I'm sorry, brother," Mai spoke in a shaky voice. "I called him! I didn't mean to, it's just that you were beginning to lose your real self!"

"You--" Sho breathed angrily as he stood on his feet, "... Just take Shu somewhere from the castle."

"What are you going to do to him?"

"Nothing," Sho lied, "Just go take Shu. Be back before sundown."

"Yes, brother..."

As soon as Mai had gotten up and took Shu with her outside of the castle walls, Sho bursted down the stairs only to be greeted by his sworn enemy. It was as if he had just met him yesterday, having no clue as to who he was, as the man sat in front of the fireplace.

"Go away before I kill you," Sho hissed. "I don't want to be a murder unlike you and your family."

"Sho, I never did tell you how I fell in love with you," the man spoke, ignoring his obvious threats.

"I don't care for that anymore."

"I met you through my father," Satoshi continued to ignore him, "You don't remember but he and your father were once good friends when we were only about Shu's age."

"I don't believe every word you are saying."

"When I first saw you, you had an amazing smile and since then I couldn't forget you. I passed by your kingdom many times but I was too scared to come in."

"By the time I realized it, our fathers began to hate each other just because of a stupid fight of who's a better kingdom. By that time, I couldn't come to your kingdom, I knew you'd hate me if I did."

"So when the war was finally over... I saw this as an opportunity to come and fix my father's mess. I really did not mean to hurt you Sho. I love you with all my heart."

"Your story doesn't mean anything to me," Sho lied as he remembered a shy boy hiding behind his mother's dress when he was a kid.

"But Sho, my father already apologized to your father on the night he died. He didn't mean for the mess to happen in the first place."

"That doesn't say anything about us," Sho continued to fight back although he knows his resistance will never work. But he still remained still without batting a single eyelid.

"I also came here for another reason."

"Hmphm."

"It's to say goodbye Sho," Satoshi told him so calmly, "I'm getting married next month on the 28th."

At that moment, Sho blinked once or twice. Married? But did Satoshi love him?

"It's not like I love her, but it's good for her and my kingdom. Even if she and I have as many kids as your lovely villagers, I'll continued to love you, Sho. Even if you still hate me. Good..." Satoshi paused and Sho was only able to catch a short glimpse of his bitter smile. "...bye..."

Sho was stuck. He couldn't get his feet to move for him so he could stop Satoshi from walking out that door again. It's true, he hated him and his family, but he missed him so badly the moment he saw his face again. All he wanted was to hold Satoshi again, to tell him he loved him. But no matter how many times he tried, his feet wouldn't budge and the rain wasn't there that time to cover him..

Sho was eating again when he realized how much he was hurting Mai and Shu. He began to recover a little but his head was the problem. Every time he passed a calendar, his head moved to the specific object to see what month it was. And as he feared, it was that month, and a few days he’ll lose Satoshi forever without even saying goodbye.

“Brother, go to Satoshi and stop the wedding before it’s too late,” Mai warned him as she passed by.

“I-- I can’t,” He told her, “I can’t ruin the chance to make their kingdom unite. The soon-to-be-bride might call war against us.”

Mai laughed.

“It’s not funny, you know.”

“Brother, I’m sure she loves someone else too so it won't be that hard to ask for forgiveness."

Sho turned around and suspiciously eyed his sister. "How do you know this?"

“I’m a princess. I have to know every princesses, you know.”

“Oh,” Sho nodded his head in agreement since socializing was a critical part of being a princess. “I see. But I’m not stopping the wedding.”

“Then...” Mai stepped out and bowed. “Sorry to have bothered you, your majesty.”

She left soon after and Sho was left alone with the taunting calendar. He knows he should act upon what Mai suggested, but it just felt wrong to interrupt a holy event. In the end, he and Satoshi were just never meant to be together...

Sho couldn’t sit still. He really wanted to see Satoshi and it was a day before the wedding was going to happen. The young secretary kindly asked him several times to calm down and that he can stop the wedding, but Sho stopped him. Mai, also suggested the same while she was putting on the necessary outfit for traveling. Shu, on the other hand, was insistently asking his brother to save his other brother, saying that he likes him and wants to see him again. Sho refused all of them. It was already too late anyways, and maybe Satoshi might be happier with a real family.

However, the more Sho thought this, the angrier he became. If Satoshi would have introduced himself In the beginning, he would have forgiven him. Sho then realized this wouldn't work as well since he would hate him the moment he mentioned the family name, and he never would have fallen in love.

"That's it," Sho yelled as he stood up and banged his desk with his fist. "Taisuke! Prepare my horse! Take care of my siblings while I'm gone!"

"Yes, sir!" Taisuke responded rather quickly, a smile playing on his lips; Sho spotted this.

"What are yoy happy about?"

"N-nothing."

"Then prepare my horse!" Sho demanded as he grabbed his travel coat and dashed towards the castle stables...

The ride wasn't that long since he hasn't stopped at all, but he reached it on the day of the wedding, just after the sun decided to announce the judgement day. Alert, Sho urged his stead to go faster and faster until he reached the edge of Satoshi's kingdom. The horse had given up by then, bu that didn't mean he would. Sho ran toward the building with the talles steeple. He had never been to Satoshi's kingdom but it's like his feet knew where to go. By the time he reached the church, the bells were ringing and the sun was shining brightly.

"Stop!" Sho yelles as he bursted theough the doors and saw him with a woman clining onto his arm. "Stop!"

"What is the meaning of this, Sakurai-san?!" Satoshi's father asked as Sho walked down the aisle. "T--"

"This man!" Sho interrupted, his finger pointing to a surprised Satoshi. "I love this man and I was in the wrong to let him leave so easily. I learned, since he's been living with me, that it doesn't matter who he is as long as he and I love each other. I don't care if his family disrupted mines, or ruined my kingdom! I care about Ohno Satoshi! And what he has done to me since I had first met him!"

"It this true?" Satoshi's father asked his son and Satoshi was quick to answer as he let go of the woman and ran towards him.

Sho was more than happy to accept him once again once Satoshi was in his arms again. "I won't let go," he told the man, "let's start all over again."

"Fine by me," Satoshi panted, "I... I'm Ohno Satoshi."

"I'm Sakurai Sho," he introduced, "How would you like to be escorted out of here?"

"Princess style."

"Alright," Sho winked, "Princess style it is."

Satoshi was in his arms again and thankfully his father didn't declare war. Neither did his ex-soon-to-be-bride because she had confessed that, she too, loved someone else.

As soon as he and Satoshi were on his horse, they headed home, back to where it all started.
