Friends have been wondering about the whole Geng username vs Kyuhyun bias vs YeMin pairing preference.
Thus, here, your questions are finally answered! 8D I don't really understand why people even get intrigued by this, most probably because I always poke fun at my contradictions but...
ohmygeng Username
I've always had the hugest soft spot for Han Geng, and even after the whole lawsuit, I still do pretty much adore him. So, when coming up a username for LJ, I tried to think up a Han Geng or Kyuhyun-ish username. listengrrbabygrr couldn't be used (no, I don't know what was going through my mind when I typed that) so the second name that popped up was ohmygeng!
Then, I remembered vaguely that I chanced upon ohmygeng on tumblr, so I thought that someone used it as a phrase or something. Turns out that ohmygeng is actually someone's tumblr username. :/ So zero points for originality here.
Kyuhyun bias
I don't know what sort of horrible Kyuhyun-biased fangirl I am for absolutely no one guessed that my favorite SJ member is actually Kyuhyun. Han Geng for obvious reasons, Yesung for my fangirliness over him and Sungmin for my YeMin pairing preference.
Well, surprise surprise guys! XD I can't blame anyone; it's hardly evident other than my HanKyu user pic and constant slotting of Kyuhyun into almost all my fics just because. Lol.
Coming into the SJ fandom, I actually disliked Kyuhyun on first sight because I thought he was ugly. Ouch, harsh, you say? Yeah, I admit, I kinda go "WTH" at myself for being so shallow. And it wasn't even the 'U' MV in which I first saw him (they all looked dreadful there, though), but the 'It's You' MV. Kyuhyun was pretty much at odds with the whole 'youngest in the group' stubborn mindset I had came up with so I didn't take a liking to him.
But this changed my mentality towards him:
Then, I cried and I didn't even know all of their names. Back then, Kyuhyun was only 'the blond, old-looking maknae of the group' to me. After the performance, I went on to find out more about Kyuhyun, more about his accident, just whatever I could find.
I'm really ashamed that I ever viewed Kyuhyun so superficially. Really, I admire him so much for his dedication, resilience, character, wit, linguistic ability and pure talent. Along with Han Geng, he'll forever occupy the perch of favorite SJ member in my heart.
YeMin pairing preference
Well, this is an embarrassing story, really.
Back when I started to shift into Kyuhyun fangirl mentality, I took it too far and became an illogical, obsessive and possessive Kyuhyun fangirl. Not that I could only see Kyuhyun with me, I wasn't like that, but I pretty much disliked it if he was paired with others. So Sungmin and Zhou Mi suffered the brunt of my crappy mentality and I disliked them.
When I soon gained some common sense and grew out of that horrible phase, I started to admire Sungmin for his versatility and personality. And then, here comes the embarrassing part LMFAO.
My two best friends and I decided to role-play(?)/come up with a drama-fic involving our favourite K-Pop personalities. So basically, I had Chansung as my brother and Siwon as my step-brother and I still can't believe we thought it was a decently acceptable idea back then. OTL
Yesung was my childhood doctor who I had always nursed a crush on (It's okay; you can laugh) and Sungmin was the divorcee (yes, divorcee) who had Ryeowook as her child with Minhyuk as another. ....Oh goodness.
Somehow or another, I thought that pairing Yesung and Sungmin would be a very swell idea and my friends agreed. And I started to Google them and I realized that they actually seem pretty good together!
I found the yehmin and yeminaday comms on LJ and they fueled my interest in the pairing. I searched for their fics and I found that I liked reading about them.
Since hardly anyone updated their fics regularly, I decided to write my own fics about them. For reasons unbeknownst to me, I grew to like them even more after writing them a few times. How do I put this.. I can envisage them in my mind easily so I prefer writing them.
To be honest, I've never found Yesung and Sungmin to be awkward around each other; in fact, I think they behave naturally around each other. Like if they didn't see any reason or interest to react with each other, fine; no reason to go out of their way to interact/perform fanservice etc.
I do think that they are just so adorable whenever they're together. Be it their constrasting reactions, Yesung following Sungmin unquestioningly, or their bitchiness regarding each other... I don't know, they're just so squishable to me. ;~;
Awkward or not, it's obvious that they still do care and look out for each other and that's enough for me. :>
