Because if I go once, then I don't have to go again. [she hopes]

You don't think that's a really stupid reason to go to therapy?

No. If I don't have to go again, I don't have to go again, and then I don't have to deal with stupid consequences. It's called picking your battles.

Yeah, I get picking your battles, but this is a battle I need to fight. I don't need therapy and I'm not going.

None of us needed it.

Trust me, I'm aware of that.

But some adults are just really stupid, and think they're always right. So the more you fight them, the more they think that what they're doing is what you "need." Which we don't, but the more you fight, the more they'll think it.

Or why not fight until we win? Why lay down and let them walk on us?

Look, Sullivan, I'm all for fighting when the outcome is worth it. But if there's one thing I learned from wrestling, it's to fight smart. You can't win a losing battle.

Think of it more as a tactical retreat, to lull the enemy into a false sense of security.

[Lauren gets nothing for several minutes except maybe an occasional inkblot, as Kelly thinks things through. She can't deny Lauren makes sense, but damn she doesn't like it.]

I can't just [inkblots]

lose.

We haven't lost. I don't lose. Ever.

There's a difference between losing and a tactical retreat. A tactical retreat is only a temporary yielding, so you can come back and hit them hard where it hurts the most.

You make it sound like you're going to do something to get back at them. You were against revenge.

I am against revenge in the situation you brought it up in. Revenge is all about timing.

Of course you're against revenge when it's more relevant to me. Whatever.

Alright, say I wait. What does your vision of revenge include? Because it could be way different from mine.

Depends on the person and what they've done.

Way to be vague.

Fine. You want an example?

Puckerman, Larkin and Nicholson are the ones who set the nifflers on us. Once we were back at school, I didn't see any reason for revenge on Larkin because he was beating himself up way more than anything I could ever do. Nicholson is Cassie's friend, and I'd get shit for doing anything to her. So that left Puckerman. But I couldn't do anything drastic because I've got professors watching my every move. So I just made a suggestion here or there that I might be doing something to exact revenge, so he spent the next week or so completely paranoid. Just because he thought I was doing things like putting something in his waffles or messing up his potion or something. I didn't have to actually do anything because he made it all up in his head.

Which I told him, publicly, a couple days go.

Now that's revenge.

Okay, that's kind of rad.

But I don't think anything like that would work on any of the teachers.
