[Final-1] [ Final-2] [Final-3]

Final Chapter (end)

Later that night, when the moon was high and the stars were sparkling their approval for all that had transpired, Yuya and Massu set off to tell their good news to their two friends who were bound to take credit for a big part of their reconciliation.  They found them at the gallery, sitting on one of the sofas and already toasting each other with champagne.

“Celebrating something?”  Yuya asked sweetly as he led Massu into the sofa.

“Besides your reconciliation, you mean?”  Yamapi asked as he filled a couple of glasses for them.

“You’re pretty confident,” Yuya said, He leveled a threatening stare at Yamapi and Koyama, letting them know that they’re not getting out of it scot-free.  As much as he’s grateful for their help, he didn’t appreciate the dunking they gave him, and he will get even with them, although it wasn’t a priority at the moment.  Massu’s his priority and he snuggled closer to him, loving the way his arm tried to pull him even tighter against his body.

“Hard to miss with a combination like you two,” Koyama said.  “The only difficulty was getting you in the same place at the same time.”

“I nearly drowned,” Yuya countered.

“That was the tricky part,” Yamapi agreed, his smirk belying any concern.  “But you didn’t drown, so unless you catch pneumonia, I’d say it worked.”

Neither Yuya nor Massu said a word.

“It did work, didn’t it?” Koyama asked.

“It worked,” Massu said briefly.  Now all he wanted to do was marry Yuya, preferably not waiting more than a couple of days.  He’s not without connection so he’s confident he’ll get the license tomorrow.  And just as soon as he has it, he’ll pick out their rings.

“So I guess, we’re celebrating that too.”  Yamapi said, smiling his approval at the couple.

“There’s something more?” Massu asked.

Koyama smiled brightly. “Yamapi sold the book.”

“What book?” Massu asked.

“You did?  Yuya asked.

“I did.” Yamapi confirmed, satisfaction written all over his face.

“To the author!” Koyama raised his glass.

“When did you hear?” Yuya asked excitedly.

“What did you hear?”  Massu asked with a totally confused expression on his face, joining in the celebration even though he didn’t have a clue what they were celebrating.

“This afternoon,” Yamapi said. “They left a message on the machine.”

“Hell of a way to learn you’re gonna be famous.”  Koyama said.

“That’s marvelous!” Yuya exclaimed, leaning across the table to hug Yamapi.

“What are we talking about?” Massu finally asked.

“Yamapi’s book, of course,” Koyama said, as though he thought Massu was totally slow.   “He sold it.”

“You really wrote a book?”   Massu asked Yamapi.  He didn’t expect an answer though, since no one had paid the least attention to any of his questions thus far,

“Have you told Ryo he’s dating a romance novelist?”  Yuya asked.

“You wrote a romance?” Massu asked.  Yamapi?  A romance?  He sighed in total bewilderment, then chastised himself for stereotyping. Since it appeared Yamapi had indeed produced a manuscript of some sort, he had immediately imagined it to be a spy story, or at least a mystery of some kind.  But a romance?

He chalked it up to life’s little surprises and joined in the barrage of questions.  “What do you know about romance?”

“At least as much as you do,” Yamapi shot back without skipping a beat.

“Do we get autographed copies?”  Massu asked.

“I’ll sign it if you’ll buy it.” Yamapi said.

“What does Ryo have to say?” Yuya asked, mischief playing in his eyes.

Yamapi just smiled.

“Does it have sex in it?”  Koyama asked, looking hopeful, then laughed when Yamapi turned a shade of deep red.

“You shouldn’t be embarrassed about being a success.”  Massu told him.

“I’m not exactly embarrassed,” Yamapi said, hesitating for a moment, looking for the right words.  “It’s just that I’m a bit uncomfortable -----“

“And defensive,” Yuya added.

“And defensive about people I know reading some of the er ----“

“Hot stuff?” Yuya asked with a straight face.

“Precisely,” Yamapi said.

“I guess that pretty much answers my question about it having sex,” Koyama said and winked at Yuya in the laughter that followed.

“Can’t think why you should care one way or another what people would think,” Massu said.  “At best, they will admire your . . . . . imagination.”

“And at worst,” Yamapi couldn’t help asking.

“They’ll be asking for your advice!” Massu said and they all doubled back in laughter as Yamapi blushed some more.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

An hour later, Massu helped Yuya lock up the gallery.  They had agreed to move the combined celebration party where there was food and more champagne, and not incidentally, where Ryo and Shige have agreed to meet Yamapi and Koyama for dinner.  The two other men had already left, graciously, letting Massu and Yuya know they have thirty minutes of privacy before they were expected to show their faces.

“Do you trust me baby?” Massu asked.

“Yes,”   Completely, totally without reservation.  “Yes,” he repeated.

“In all ways? With all you heart?”  Massu persisted.

“Yes,”

“With your life?” Massu asked.

“Of course,” Yuya smiled, thinking how insignificant life would be without Massu.

Massu paused for a second before asking his final question.  “With everything you are and all that you have?”

“That seemed a little insignificant with everything else.”  Yuya said,

“But no less important.”   Massu argued, waiting eagerly for Yuya’s response.

“I trust you with anything and everything that I have,”   Yuya said, knowing that the shadow of his sister’s misfortune had completely disappeared.

Massu let out his pent-up breath escape slowly, understanding that the gift of trust was the most important thing that they would ever share.  He waited while Yuya locked up the front door, and continued the conversation as they walked to the Jaguar.

“Do you have any idea how much I love you?”  Massu asked softly

“I think so,” Yuya said, stopping for a moment to look at the man he loves.

“Do you know that I trust you with all that I have?”  Massu said.   “And all that I am?”

“Yes,”  Yuya’s emotions rose.  Massu’s offering him his heart and soul.  He paused as they reached his car and reached for his pocket for the keys.  He handed it to Massu, his eyes glistening with tears.

Massu’s heart jumped up to his throat.  Yuya’s action had just proven to him how much he loves him.  By sharing the car with him, his most prized possession, Yuya just handed his heart, soul and life to him in a platter.

Tears threatened his eyes, and with a swift movement, he took the keys and hugged Yuya tightly.  They remained in the embrace for a few moments then as he brushed his lips softly over Yuya’s, he said.  “I love you baby.  I’ll never stop loving you.”

This has got to be the longest chapter I’ve written so far.  I hope this ending makes up for the nastiness of the previous chapter.

It makes me sad that the story has come to an end. And I’m gonna miss it, but every story has its ending, giving way to a new beginning.

Thank you all for keeping up with me. . . .love you guys !!!!!!
