July 11, 2019 -Rihanna covered the new Harper's Bazaar China cover and it had many wondering if it was guilty of cultural appropriation.
- Rihanna's hair mimics Geisha culture and her makeup hints at it. Her clothes seem to be more Westernized.
- On it's Instagram page the magazine said that Rihanna was styled, photographed, and the shoot was produced by a Chinese crew.
- There was a debate if it was cultural appropriation when people of the culture dressed her, or if when a company has money to gain, is it right to exploit a centuries long culture.
