Disney’s Live-Action Cruella Long Road To The Big Screen

- The movie has been in development since 2011. The first draft of the screenplay was written by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada), and was supposed to depict Cruella as younger Miranda Priestly in modern-day. The same script was re-written by Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey).

- Jez Butterworth (Spectre) was brought in to write a whole new story, now taking place in the 80s and depicting Estella (later known as Cruella) as a "cunning and ruthless street rat, that doesn't care about the cost to get what she wants".

- In early 2016 Emma Stone was cast as Cruella.

- Alex Timbers (Mozart In The Jungle) was hired as director in late 2016. He assigned Dana Fox (How to Be Single) to polish the previous screenplay.

- In 2018, Timbers left due to scheduling conflicts and Disney hired Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) as director. He enlisted Tony McNamara (The Favorite) to rewrite the previous draft, also, making him the first man to do so since the conception of the movie.

- In May 2019, Emma Thompson was cast as the Baroness, the antagonist of the movie.

- Principal photography was supposed to begin in July in the UK, but after Emma Stone’s shoulder injury shooting will now reportedly start in September.

- It will be an origin story, the official plot reads: “Before she becomes Cruella De Vil, she lives on the streets of 1980’s London with other hoodlums, where we learn the real origins behind Estella’s hatred of Dalmatians.”

- The whole cast and more plot details are expected be announced on Disney's D23 this August.

- The move will be release in December 2020.
