Aurora Shooting Victims Voice Fears Over 'Joker' in Letter to Warner Bros

Families of victims and the survivors of the 2012 Aurora shooting have written a letters to Warner Bros regarding the upcoming Joaquin Phoenix film. During a screening of 'The Dark Knight Rises,' a shooter killed twelve and injured seventy.
The families expressed concern over the upcoming Joker film and is asking the studio to donate to groups that aid victims of gun violence. The mother of one victim stated she is fearful of people connecting to and even emulating the Joker in this current American environment where mass shootings happen on a nearly daily basis. She also called the film a slap in the face.
However, the families and advocacy groups are not asking for a boycott or banning of the film. Instead, they are requesting the studio to use their influence to publicly lobby for appropriate gun control laws. A Warner Bros. spokesperson says the studio has not yet received the letter. “We cannot comment on a letter we have not seen,” the rep adds.
'Joker' will not play at the theater where the massacre took place.
