Realistically I don't see the dumber side of humanity getting any smarter without a push (as if climate change and a deadly pandemic isn't a push). The aliens may as well say "hi it's time to get yourselves together" and push us out of the bird's nest.

My friend has a theory that there are multiple planets with different dumb to not dumb ratios. So earth is like 50/50 but there are some twin planets that are 100 percent dumb, 100 percent smart. Aliens are just watching and seeing how the diff experiments go.
