Denzel always seems like a chill guy, so I’m willing to believe there were other things that happened prior to that moment.

Plus Brolin comes off as arrogant and full of himself. So I would not be surprised if Denzel’s version of events was very different from Brolin’s.

Nah I believe it was Denzel and not him trying to stay in character. This checks with his personality and what others have said about him.
