December 18, 2024 • Comedy (and Christmas?) legend Martin Short becomes a five-timer tonight and will be returning to Studio 8H tonight. He will be the sixth ever cast member to join the club. Short was already a legend when he joined the cast of SNL for season 10 in 1984, as he'd been a cast member and writer on SCTV from 1981-1984.
• Short quickly returned to SNL to host, first stopping by in 1986 to co-host with his Three Amigos co-stars Steve Martin and Chevy Chase. He would host again in 1996 and 2012, before co-hosting with Steve Martin once again in 2022. A bit of a fun fact is that Short has only ever hosted SNL in the month of December and his last three times as host were specifically "the Christmas episode"!
Here we go again 🙂↕️

December 19, 2024 • This will be Hozier's second time appearing on the show as musical guest. He was first on the show exactly ten years ago in 2014 as the musical guest for Bill Hader's season 40 episode.
• The show has yet to announce who is kicking off their 2025 slate of episodes, though they are expected to take a prolonged break in order to prepare for the SNL50 anniversary show that is airing live on Sunday, February 16.
• Ahead of the big party, several special documentaries will air on NBC and Peacock.
Questlove and SNL alum Oz Rodriguez have teamed up to produce, Ladies & Gentlemen … 50 Years of SNL Music. It is said to feature never before told stories about the musical performances on the show over the last fifty years and includes interviews with artists like Bad Bunny, Elvis Costello, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish & Finneas, Dave Grohl, Debbie Harry & Chris Stein, Mick Jagger, Dua Lipa, Kacey Musgraves, Olivia Rodrigo, Paul Simon, Chris Stapleton, Justin Timberlake, & Jack White. The special is set to premiere on January 27.
• There's also a
four part documentary called SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night, which will be streaming starting on January 16. The first episode, "Five Minutes", focusing on the SNL audition process and will reportedly include audition room footage. Episode 2, "Written By: A Week Inside the SNL Writers Room" is all about...well writing a 90 minute show in one week. Episode 3 is said to completely focus on the "More Cowbell" sketch, while episode 4, "Season 11: The Weird Year" will focus on the one year Lorne Michaels usually would like everyone to forget exists. That season (which ran from 1985-1986) saw the return of Michaels to the show after a five year hiatus, and in turn Michaels made the decision to hire stars like Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey Jr., Randy Quaid, and Joan Cusack in place of more traditional comedic performers.
