As part of the 2008 Royal Shakespeare Company season, David Tennant, current star of BBC’s DOCTOR WHO series, will appear as Hamlet in the eponymous play, from July 24 to November 15. His co-star is none other than STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION’S Patrick Stewart, playing Claudius, Hamlet’s uncle and stepfather. Tennant’s also appearing as Berowne in LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST from October 2 until November 15.
There have been rumors that a big screen DOCTOR WHO movie was in the works, and that former Doctor Paul McGann had been approached to reprise his role in it. According to McGann, this is not the case, though it’s not out of the realms of possibility: “They haven't called me, but often you hear it first through rumour. But you know... yeah I'd go back and do it ... as long as I don't have to wear a wig.”
The RSC have apparently sent out brochures advertising the casting of David Tennant. The cat is officially out of the bag. I wonder what the BBC will make of it. Looks like regeneration time again.
